Yes, its happened. Israel believes that 2 of their captured soldiers are there and began air strikes in Lebanon. So far, Beirut Airport has been hit, and the airport is not closed...

You know when I read the News in the APs.. It give me the impression that the Israelis action are pre-planned. You see why would The Lebanese cross over Israel to kidnap them when their whole division are at the border and ready to search lebanon ??
It will be no surprise later when the whole thing simmer down and we learnt that that those two Israelis sldiers are infact in Lebanon...
I have a feeling the Israel wants Syria and Iran to give support and that gives the Israelis reason to act against them... this is nothing new -- when it comes to US and Israel foreign affairs. They control much of the news we read. -

War is a dirty game lar. Look at it this way. Israel has fought how many wars since they were formed, in most circumstances, they were attacked or pre-empted attempts to invade them. But have they any reason not to strike back or pre-empt? "Terrorists" infiltrate them every day, with plots to blow themselves up schools, buses and crowded area. Well, Israel doesn't have such "tremendous" human bomb capabilities to strike back, but they do have lots of US supplied PGMs, so why not use it?
The middle east is a perpetual state of war with Israel lar. Its just a truce to date, and everybody's waiting for a chance to "wipe" Israel off the map. Fortunately, the arab league can't seem to get their collective shiite together to do anything to Isreal. -
Even if Israel stayed out of Lebanon. Hizbollah won't stay out of Israel. After all, they have support from Iran & Syria, both of whom pretty much would like to "wipe Israel off the map".

Will it escalate? It already has. I do not agree with sending suicide bombers targetting civilians in cafes and discos. But neither do I agree with using advanced air and naval forces to destroy infrastructure a lot of civilians depend on for basic needs, just to inconvenience the few. There IS a reason why collective punishment is illegal, even in war. -

Artillery and air strikes continue in Lebanon, while Hezbollah counter fires with rockets. Israel claims that some of the rockets fire on them were made in Iran.
Lebanon's highway to Syria has been bombed also. And Lebanon is currently under Land Air and Naval blockade. -

to me.. soldier and civilian are the same, both are under the protection fo the state.. and the state has a responsibility to defend them and if neccessary... resort to force of arms to secure their release. -

The Lebanese gov try to get rid of them but is too weak to do anything. These people just want to stay there for the sake of fighting Israel.

The London-based Arabic language newspaper Al-Hayat reported Saturday that “Washington has information according to which Israel gave Damascus 72 hours to stop Hizbullah’s activity along the Lebanon-Israel border and bring about the release the two kidnapped IDF soldiers or it would launch an offensive with disastrous consequences.”
The report said “a senior Pentagon source warned that should the Arab world and international community fail in the efforts to convince
Syria to pressure Hizbullah into releasing the soldiers and halt the current escalation Israel may attack targets in the country.”
Al-Hayat quoted the source as saying that “the US cannot rule out the possibility of an Israeli strike in Syria,” this despite the fact that the Bush administration has asked Israel to “refrain from any military activity that may result in civilian casualties.”
'Hizbullah made the same mistake'
The report also mentioned that President George W. Bush has repeatedly put much of the blame for the recent escalation on Syria.
“It is no coincidence that the Hizbullah operation comes at a time when the international community is working to impose sanctions on Iran due to its nuclear program and settle the score with Syria by establishing an international court to try those behind the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri,” the Pentagon source said.
According to the source, Hizbullah made the same mistake as Hamas when it did not predict the ramifications of its actions and ignored the regional and international changes since the fall of Saddam Hussein.
The source said that Israel has indicated that it “will not end its military activity until a new situation is created that will prevent Syria and Iran from using terror organizations, such as Hamas and Hizbullah, to threaten its security.”

Someone should have wiped out the Baathist leadership in Syria, and Lebanon better grow some brass ones between its legs and turn the Army on Hizbollah, or else they will forever be a battleground between Israel and Hizbollah.
What is Lebanon doing? Standing idly by and crowing about Israeli strikes, well, if they've chased those jihadists out, things would have been easier. Talk about guts.. or the lack of it, or the national will.

Israel also destroryed keya installations such as Roads leading to damascus, Power plant and has imposed an Air and Sea blockade on Lebanon.
So far, casualties more to Lebanon side. Artillery barrages continue.
Israeli warship got hit during a blockade and 2 soldiers were missing.
Haifa rockets continue to rain on northern israel.
Fighters flew over the syrian presidents house. He knew what was coming.
To me, the only capable force of putting up a fight with Israel is Iran.
However, to get to Israel, Iran's forces must go through Iraq. And here is the bomb, Look whose in Iraq with over 100,000 troops now? Easy guess huh?

The people there support Hezbollah, obviously not all. But ultimately, they were elected to power. You choose ur gov for one reason, to lead your country. And Hezbollah is leading Lebanon to war. I pity the rest who did not vote for Hezbollah.
The people are now suffering from what they chose.

For goodness sake, it was an operation by hezbollah to kidnap the soldiers. Not some impromtu thingy. Operation True Promise was conducted by hezbollah to kidnap 2 israeli soldiers in israel for the freedom of the captured prisoners.
Now Israel hits back with Operation Just Rewards.
