FOUND IT! - SAF Flanker with RSAF Viper & Tiger

  Finally had my new scanner in place and as promised in my other thread (http://www.sgforums.com/?action=thread_display&thread_id=198594), I have uploaded 2 newspaper (Lianhe Zaobao & ST) cutting here which showed a pic of a then-Soviet AF Su-27UB being 'escorted' by a RSAF Viper & Tiger while the former dropped in for AA'90.
  
  As reported, the 'guest' in the Flanker was crewed by then-RSAF chief BG Michael Teo.
  
  Well, most of us had seen pics of Soviet AF jets being intercepted escorted by NATO or Asian AF (esp during the Cold War) and even though this attachment does not show this happening to the RSAF! But it is perhaps one of those rare case/s where RSAF jets flew in formation with a Soviet/Russian AF combat jet.

  I like how the russian said the BG Teo "handled the aircraft very professional".. Like he could have said anything bad. :-)
  
  But yeah, very unusal to see RSAF aircraft and Russian aircraft in formation. Too bad the images aren't in colour.

  I am a great fan of the Su-27 and its variants. I still wonder why we didn't buy them back then since we are introduced to it way back in 1990. Maybe due to politics (USSR is still around then) and budget.

  In 1990 i guess. Btw, the Flanker involved is the Su-27PU or the Su-27UB?

  The article was published on Feb 20, 1990, The Straits Times Page: 23. The flight occurred on Feb 19, 1990.
  
  O/T You've a nice collection of news clippings. Mine rarely strays into material from the Chinese press.
  
  Question: Why don't your date your clippings?
  
  Have you thought of scanning all your articles and burning them on a CD as a backup and for ease of transportation?

  Thanks for your suggestion. Will surely take your suggestions seriously and burn the pics on a CD.
  
  I have another 2 clippings (that's right, from the ST & LHZB...again, hahah) but it is on the 'arrival' of the 1st E-2C from the US to Sin. This clip has particular symbolic to me as recently DefMin Teo CH mentioned in the ST about the possibility of replacing/augmentating the E-2C and I kept the clip 'announcing' the 1st arrival of the Hawkeye to the RSAF back in 1987 (or is that '88?).

  You might want to burn into 2 duplicate CDs. A working copy and a gold copy in the dry box.
