The Republic of Singapore Air ForceÂ’s (RSAF) Apache Longbow Attack Helicopter (AH-64D) Squadron was inaugurated at a ceremony in Sembawang Air Base (SBAB) this afternoon by Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean. This completes the transformation of 120 Sqn from a utility to an attack squadron. The Apache will enhance the Singapore Armed ForcesÂ’ (SAF) capability to undertake a wider spectrum of missions, notably in air-land integrated operations.
The Apache is a key feature of the SAFÂ’s transformation to its 3rd Generation. With its advance avionics and weapons systems, the Apache is one of the most technologically advanced attack helicopters in the world. It Longbow Fire Control Radar provides an enhanced radar target detection range and tracking ability, and can detect more than 200 targets. With its Hellfire missiles, the Apache can conduct precision strikes under all weather conditions.
The Apaches returned to Singapore in January after a 4-year deployment in Arizona in the United States with the RSAFÂ’s Peace Vanguard detachment. The Apache made its debut apperance in Singapore at Asian Aerospace 2006 in February. Singaporeans can expect to see the SAFÂ’s latest attack helicopters in action at this yearÂ’s National Day Parade fly-past. -
I wonder if we are going to see Spike missiles on Apache anytime soon.
Alternatives to Hellfire missiles -
Why? Spikes is much better then Hellfire isitz?

I don't think that the Long Bow radar is compatible with the Spike missiles. The Eurocopter Tiger is testing with the Spikes though.

Aff, spike is NOT compatible with longbow radar, but a AH-64D longbow should have no problem firing spike if it choose 2

Cost is one of main driving factor, but more critically the operational benefits of
applying SPIKE attributable primarily to its sensor type and launch mode
configuration (LOAL)
Radar-guided Hellfire has LOAL capability just as well but because the
tracking method is not visual, unlike SPIKE's (using imaging IR), it does
not afford Hellfire-equipped Apache to perform visual verification of target
during terminal phase of engagement. This ability by SPIKE provides
tremendous value especially in precision strike situations.
Besides operational advantages, the lighter weight of SPIKE will also enable each Apache to carry more ATGMs per mission loadout. -
E factor affecting no. of missile tat e AH-64D can carry is limited by no. of pylon available n Hellfire2 also has some ability tat spike dun have being radar guided has it advantages when use with longbow, but a mix of both will be nice
4 spike-ER, 4 hellfire2, 38 rockets n 4 mistral or Sa-18 WOW

eerr, u don't need ONE helicopter to carry everything ya? I think they usually work in pairs or fours... so can package those 4 helos different. One guy can carry a mix of hellfire Ks and Ls, another Hellfire Ks n rockets, another guy Spikes-Hellfires. No worries de, Apaches very multi-mission packageable de.
What i believe the Spikes will provide is the "Quickdraw" ability. The visual acquisition fire n forget capability of the spike can be considerably faster than the Hellfire L. But when u want to simultaneously rain missiles on the enemy from different sides from concealed positions, LongbowHellfire is the way to go. -
If any of u guys would like to see the Apache perform, can go down to East Coast Beach to see them fly past on NDP rehearsal days, prob Sat evening around 0640hrs...
Flight path cannot be revealed but i do know it will fly from National Stadium to East Coast Beach, past Marine Crescent block of flats, then on...
