I dont think they have this capabilityOriginally posted by tankee1981:.
I think we will be at a better position to come to Brunei's aid should they are being threatened by invasion. It will the Dutch quite some time to reach this part of the world from Europe.
The British Have troops there as well.Originally posted by mhcampboy:Do not worry. Even if we do not help them, the Dutch will surely aid Brunei. i do not think they will let their billion dollar infrastructure be razed to the ground just like that. Not to mention the Sultan is also the PM and Commander of its defence force. he has support from royalties and head of states alike.
technically yes. but its the gurkha contingent actually. they are guarding the kins there...Originally posted by lwflee:The British Have troops there as well.
yes... there are some sort of agreedment in place...Originally posted by LazerLordz:I would defend her because I have ties to the place.
But I believe that we do have some sort of agreement in place, can't remember where I read it. Drawn up in the 1960s..
the british do not control everything in brunei... the brunei govt does possess significant autonomy and self rule even before independence.Originally posted by mhcampboy:How can that be? Brunei gained her independence from the British only at 1981. Why would Singapore drew and signed an agreement to protect a British vassal?
And thus, Brunei wasnt part of Asean at that time.
I agree with you. I will protect Brunei too if need be. I have an affinity to the place...
FPDA is a consultative framework... its not a binding security treaty... if malaysia burns tomolo... we can choose to sit across the johore river and drink tea while enjoying the firework..Originally posted by laurence82:Oh i see what is the issue now
From what I know, ASEAN isnt a defence co-operation entity, FPDA is.
So we are not obligated technically, but morally, as we all desire peace in this part of the world, I think we should
I agree. and i also will beg to differ.Originally posted by tripwire:the british do not control everything in brunei... the brunei govt does possess significant autonomy and self rule even before independence.
Originally posted by tripwireActually i agree with the part where Singapore will definitely help Brunei should it is being threatened, as this is what i have originally suspected. And this is not due to the fact that we are members of ASEAN.
yes... there are some sort of agreedment in place...
even if there is non.. would singapore allow brunei.. a country whose currency is linked to singapore dollar to get hit?
anyone with a pinch of brain would understand that due to the economic and currency link between singapore and brunei.. an attack on brunei is equivalent to a direct assualt on singapore economy and monetary system...
i doubt it would go unanswered... agreedment or no agreedment...
