Brunei

Singapore have very close defence relations with this ASEAN kingdom. We have permanent training facilities there, regularly conduct joint military exercises and SAFTI have trained Bruneian officers.
Brunei is a small country but very rich due to its oil deposits. Even though it have a lot of money it does have a single fighter in its airforce.
My question is whether Singapore will go to Brunei's aid when its existence is being threaten?

That the SAF is even larger that the whole population of Brunei?
Back to reality, We will surely help if Brunei ask for help. If not Singapore will not help as it can't risk losing her "sons" in a war. Just like the situation in Timor Leste. -
Singapore have signed any defence treaty or informal agreements with Brunei which states that we will help them in times of war?

it's more like a common understanding. i think by posting troops there on a more or less permernent basis means we are ready to defend them

Do not worry. Even if we do not help them, the Dutch will surely aid Brunei. i do not think they will let their billion dollar infrastructure be razed to the ground just like that. Not to mention the Sultan is also the PM and Commander of its defence force. he has support from royalties and head of states alike.

I think we will be at a better position to come to Brunei's aid should they are being threatened by invasion. It will the Dutch quite some time to reach this part of the world from Europe. -
I thought since we are all ASEAN nation, we are obligated to help if ASEAN country need help?

If I'm not wrong, I think RAF got a small detachment there protecting the oil fields.

As SEA countries are a part of ASEAN, they've signed a treaty to keep the peace in SEA, including Brunei....

This FPDA is an agreement that covers the defence of these 5 countries only right? If Singapore chose to aid Brunei, is there a clause to state that we can't? The reason why UN or ASEAN is still standing is because war hasnt breaks out yet. Study the history of the Leaque Of Nations then you will understand. -
