What's so great about the G36 or the HK416? And why should Singapore buy them?
The HK416 is still pretty much a AR varient operating with a short stroke piston. Isn't something new or one of a kind.
The G36... well it is the German version of the AR18.

I would like to get my hands on the HK416 or a Piston based M4 or M16. Mainly even though there are a lot of assualt rifle out there but I have handle so many and still like the balance, weight, accuracy , ergonomics and aviliability of parts for the M16 M4 system. The major flaw in the M16 is the direct gas system and the magazine ! HK has all of those resolve with a piston based 416 and the HK Mags!
HK totally resdeign the magazine ! it has differnt curve angle to ease feeding and it is smooth as butter not like our cheaply made M16 mags.
As for comparison to other rifle I think the Bullpup rifles like the AUG, P2000 , FAMAS etc are great rifles but you have to practically relearn your way of weapon handling and mag change is always akward and trigger pull on most bullpup is alawys terrible.
Only thing come close to the HK 416 IMHO is the SIG550 series!

Why not check out either Leitner-Wise or POF both offer piston operated ARs. And they are avaliable now to the American public unlike HK.
So Dave will you be getting the SIG556 when it is released? -
Since we just acquire the SAR-21 not too long ago, the possibility of getting the newer HK 416 is close to zero. Unless of course our SOF plans to get some.

I already have the POF USA piston upper on order.
U are right.. HK has been very anal about their policy and refuse to sell the 416 to civillian! Although I like the concept of the 416! I rather support other company that support our cause!
Anyway, HK recent products do not entice me at all! tried the UMP and G36 ! totally unimpress! Maybe the MP-7A1 is allright but I rather have the P90!
the FN P2000 is quite neat! but I have the AUG and did not like the bullpup design becasue of the learning curve to do well with the bullpup design! much prefer the std rifle like the M4, MP5 AK type setup.
the SIG556 would be a nice rifle to look into ! Will look at the real rifle before commiting to getting one. Defeintly one rifle to think about although I rather have the SIG550 series ... the SIG556 looks kind of funny IMHO

Did you know the H&K 416 has a lower maintenence level.
Fired one in the US and I tell you, if you ever touvh this gun, you will swear that the M-16 sucks! But then again, it is personel preference. It is clean and does not clog like the M-16! -

this is the HK 416! an improvement of the M4 -M16 rifle with piston operation, improve magazine, improve buffer... sight systems also!

any pics to share? and aren't u the guy who wear camos and run around testing them? please show us some pics as i am sure most of us are curious on how u test them and how really effective are the camos.

Sar-21's trigger isn't too bad. Very responsive leh... I guess not ALL bullpups have bad triggers? =D
I still duno how the SAR-21 trigger linkage is done tho... can anyone enlighten me? -
My M4 , M14, etc all have very crisp trigger! compared to the AUG I have ! the AUG is a big disspointment! Darn! even my AK 74 and AK47 have better trigger! Kind of a spongy in the front ..... Somwhat like a GLock trigger pull!
Maybe the Austrian like that kind of trigger......
I am glad the SAR-21 triggerpull is desent ! Will like to have a go on the SAR21 ! MAybe my next trip back to Singapore hope to catch the SAFTI open house!

According to the article at Janes by Charles Q Cutshaw on the SAR21.
"The trigger mechanism is excellent with a relatively light, crisp release - which we estimate to be around 2.3kg -with little creep or backlash. This is accomplished via a stiff sliding plate that links the trigger and fire-control unit, rather than a flexible rod or similar mechanism used in some bullpup designs that result in a heavy and sluggish trigger pull."

HAHA! Actually, I fired one that was owned by my friend. He got it from the Black market. There was one shipment that was shiped wrongly and landed on the wrong hands, therefore, those people sold to gun shops and they were then sold to civilians. My friend was one of them who bought them off the selves. After H&K knew about it, they offered 3X the amount of wad my friend bought and wanted to buy back from him. But my friend found it to be so good that he did not want to do the deal.
There are also some others in US who have the guns. Cool gun I must say. -
The Taiwanese already manufactures and issue their own version of a piston-driven M-16.
See if I can find some pics. Used to see them on the forums. -
I heard about the bo bo HK did .... but wonder why thy would not support selling semi auto upper to civillians! Make them twice as rich!
Well, HK will always be HK! although I like their products, but they have become a snob in this firearms industries ! Maybe time to support other freinder company like SIG Arms, FN , POF-USA.. etc./
There will be other piston conversion for M4..

H&K may manufacture fine firearms, but their customer service in the US civilian sector leaves much to be desired. I have heard horror stories from club members about their experiences trying to get H&K to honor legitimate warranty claims on their pistols. E-mails and phone calls to their customer/technical support department go unanswered, and if you're lucky enough to actually get a hold of a rep there, they'll try to pin the cause of the problem or malfunction on 'operator error.' Here they are, the new Taiwanese T-91, do you guys think it is piston-driven? I'm not sure anymore.

YEs! that is a piston based M16 upper ! you can see the piston is similar to a FAL piston. Great stuff!

Why is it that the 2nd picture from the top of this Taiwanese T-91 have this red sticker with Singapore crest? Is this picture taken from a past Asian Aerospace exhibition?
