Is the USNS Mercy in port? Any idea what's the schedule of their show band like when in Singapore?

Yes it just arrived today.
Monitored its voyage as it passed by eastern approach towards sembawang / loyang. Height 39m
Took a snapshot of it on the LORADs / VHMS camera @ mi workplace. But sadly i cannot extract the shot from the system.
Can't take camera to work n snap also, security breach... ~_~
V large floating hospital with a substantial number of 50cals on the decks... Prolly will depart singapore in 2 days?
side track a lil: US sub tender seen transiting along north eastern sg last week. Plus what looks like a Chinese warship departing sembawang wharf/ Loyang pier eastbound towards open waters last Monday on my 1st day @ work. -
Tawi Tawi, Philippines (June 18, 2006) - The U.S. Military Sealift Command (MSC) Hospital Ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) sets sail for Sembawang, Singapore, after its four-week stay in the South Philippines. Mercy is on a five-month deployment to South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Islands. The medical crew aboard Mercy will provide general and ophthalmology surgery, basic medical evaluation and treatment, preventive medicine treatment, dental screenings and treatment, optometry screenings, eyewear distribution, public health training and veterinary services as requested by the host nations. Mercy is uniquely capable of supporting medical and humanitarian assistance needs and is configured with special medical equipment and a robust multi-specialized medical team that can provide a range of services ashore as well as aboard the ship. Oil tankers are sturdy too. Depends if they are single or double hulled.

the USNS Mercy does have guns. .50 cals n MGs for self defence...In accordance to the Geneva Conventions, USNS Mercy and her crew do not carry any armament. Firing on the Mercy is considered a war crime.

A picture says a 1000 words, or so they say. Well in that case here are links to 4,000 words, in hi-res living colour, that show that there are at least 4 50-cals in the front and rear superstructure of the USNS Mercy.
Obviously not for fighting enemy frigates or destroyers like someone has asked, but more like a response to what happened to the USS Cole in Aden and given the penchant for Al-Qaeda not differentiating between combatants and non-combatants, a regrettable but justifiable action in arming her. Just shows the screwed up world we live in, these days

I think there was a British Mercy ship in WWI that was sunk by a German U-boat. Although the ship was painted in International relief colour, Green cross, the Germans still did not give it any chance. The ship was armed with some small guns but it was to no avail.

Singapore Armed Forces team to join US Navy hospital ship next month

SINGAPORE: A six-man Singaporean medical team plans to join a US navy hospital ship during its humanitarian mission to Indonesia.
The hospital ship Mercy is almost 900 feet long, has 1,000 beds and can provide medical and surgical treatment onboard and onshore.
The 24 personnel from the Singapore air, navy and army toured the facilities on the ship and talked with the US medical staff.
The treatment facilities include a dental unit, four X-ray rooms and an operating theatre.
Some of the operations performed range from dental to Neurosurgery.
The SAF team joining the ship next month will be working in various units of the ship.
The team consists of 1 dentist, 2 anaesthetists, 1 surgeon and 2 medics and will be onboard for one month.
The ship has a pharmacy and medical supply centre and can hold 5,000 units of blood. The medicines will be used in helping the needy.
"We look forward to being able to contribute to the humanitarian effort together with the members of the military medical community of other navies. We look forward to providing both surgical care and dental care to the people in Indonesia," said Major Dr Tang Kong Choong, Republic of Singapore Navy, Medical Service.
When they arrive in Indonesia, the patients will be flown in by one of the two helicopters onboard.
The first stop for Mercy is Simelue, followed by Nias island, before heading for Bandah Aceh. - CNA /dt
