secondly.. the A50 was not in production when formidable was being built.. that could be the reason why mindef could not have ordered the A50 slyver for our ship in the first place.
lastly... the slyver launchers are placed inside the ship hull.. not onto of the ship, thus there could not have been similar problem as our MCV due to high CG because of the top mast.
just to add one more point... the RSN formidable central portion is noted to be rather "empty", a ST engineer i spoke to.. told me that the space there was reserved for a weapon in the future...
so... there are options opened to RSN... such a big investment would be ill-concieved if they did not plan for future upgrades. -

Some background info on PLAN's Sunburn missiles:The PLAN has acquired several Russian Sovremenniy destroyers armed with the latest versions of the Raduga 3M80 Moskit anti-ship missile (NATO SS-N-22 Sunburn). The Moskit can cruise at 3 times the speed of sound and can be armed with a 200-kiloton nuclear warhead. Each PLAN Sovremenniy class destroyer is armed with eight Sunburn missiles.

Imagine 16 missiles to whack enemy's ground installation and vessels using only 1 stealth vessel.

This is indeed worrying, firstly they already have a larger surface fleet made up of frigates and corvettes. Secondly, they are getting brand new state of the art Scorpene submarines. Thirdly they are getting Su-30, though in small quantities are formidable combat aircraft capable of launching anti-ship missiles. Forthly, they are considering Brahmos, a supersonic cruise missile capable of hitting both land and sea targets. Lastly, they even planned to have small carriers in their navy in the future!

Operating brand new submarine with brand new submariners requires them to develop their fighting skills and doctorine. Not that I'm sarcastic, there may be time when their submarine stops woking undersea and they need our help.
SU-30 to me is more like an acrobatic aircraft. Nevertheless we must be wary of them. Answer to SU-30. F-15SG with APG-63V(3) AESA radar. Cool. Might not win them in dogfight but they will suffer if both really fight.
Brahmos? We have Harpoons. And the F-15SG radar has dual-mode (air to air and air to sea). Maybe in future SLAM-ER / ATA version will be in our inventory.
As for carrier, no comment. But they are always blowing air only la. A carrier with no battle group will only means it will be docking in shipyard for most of the time. Our submarines are lurking out there. -

The above is a list of the current main combatants in the Malaysian Navy. Quite a sizeable fleet i must say. Definitely more than what RSN have in terms of quantity. However, quality may not be as good. -

The new Meko class are under-armed(76mm gun only) in its current configuration and as far as i recall, they had some issues with inadequate and incomplete training manuals with that class as well. Im quite sure the RSN as well as the RMN are waiting for the rest to be built and ready(or not?). I read that they upgraded the old Kasturi class recently but they`re old corvettes and they can`t be upgraded much. I don`t think they have any potent air-defence missile system on board. The Lekiu class are nice ships to have but they have only two. Nothing in the league of the Formidables; and the Formidables are not even optimally armed with her current armaments. Thier equivalent for the Victory class, the Laksamana class, are great ships too. But they have only four. The ancient Perdana class are, well, antiquated. Our old Sea-Wolf gunboats fared better in the former`s prime.
In case if no one has noticed, the RSN has just superseded every navy in SEA in the last few years in terms of capability. The RMN would be severely stretched in a maritime conflict given the length of her coast-lines and breath of sea-lanes. They would even have trouble imposing themselves on Brunei if she has got herself the Nakhoda Ragam class vessels by now(not sure if they already do..). Anyway, kudos to the RMN for being able to maintain a decent fleet of old ships amidst new ones as well.
You should have included RSN`s 12 PVs as well. They are generally better armed than most PVs; including and perhaps even the Malaysian Meko currently. Pop a few harpoons or gabriels on board and they`ll be leagues ahead than the Perdana class; not to say they already are`nt save the lack of SSMs on board. In that sense, we even have a larger bunch of surface combatants. -

Even among the original members of ASEAN there's not enough trust. And many border disputes continue to exist among nearly all the members.
With the addition of Myanmar and Vietnam - Thailand's ancient and recent enemy, respectively, things will probably be even more complex. So a NATO type military alliance will take a long time to come.
