new arms race that will cause our SAF to be even more unbalanced.Originally posted by spartan6:If they get Brahmos, Singapore will surely get something similar

Assuming that they will be getting the Brahmos, how are we going to defend ourselves against this supersonic cruise missile?

Under international arm treaty,no countries is allow to sell weapon with range more than 300km to another countries.Originally posted by storywolf:MBDA are developing a longer range sea-launched variant, to be called SCALP Naval, to be launched from surface and submarines using the A70 version of the SYLVER launcher on the former. Remember La Fayette class frigate uses sylver launcher. Also French have say before when the scalp navy (storm) is available , they will be arming some of their frigate, well if Malaysia is getting theirs, think we be getting our frigates armed.

Brahomos as a ramjet missile has high heat signature and detecting it will not be a problem.
not to say that it's more difficult to take out because it's moving so fastOriginally posted by tankee1981:Brahmos is supersonic and reputedly the fastest cruise missile in the world, this means even if you detected it, reaction time will still be very much limited.
The Indian armed forces will be well equipped with Brahmos in the coming years. Its ship-launched version has completed tests and an air-launched version- fitted on the underbelly of the Su-30 aircraft is under development. The Indian Air Force had accepted the feasibility report and testing could begin sometime later this year. The air-launched version will be lighter in weight with its reduced booster and will take advantage of the speed of the platform itself. It will also have fins for flight stability. Two Brahmos missiles could be carried by the Su-30 without modifications.http://www.defenseworld.net/AsianAerospace2006/news/Brahmos_stand_at_asian_aerospace.htm
western anti-ship mssiles have not reached the power of Brahmos yet....Originally posted by tankee1981:http://www.defenseworld.net/AsianAerospace2006/news/Brahmos_stand_at_asian_aerospace.htm
Malaysian air force is getting the Su-30MKM. Should they be getting the Brahmos as well then it will really be bad news for us!
Then u have to wait Indian to integrate the air-launched version of the Brahmos into the su30 first before we ca talk any possibility of such a fancy weapon.Originally posted by tankee1981:http://www.defenseworld.net/AsianAerospace2006/news/Brahmos_stand_at_asian_aerospace.htm

For your information , the VLS on our frigate can be reconfigurate to carry different type of missiles. There was an article from the frigate builder themselves saying that in future when the scalp naval is available , they will arming their frigate with it, and the VLS is able to be reconfigurate for it.Originally posted by kelong70:Our Formidable-frigate are only armed with A43 vertical launcher suitable for Aster-15. Therefore they are not capable of launching Scalp Naval, not to say Aster-30.
So what if they are getting Brahmos? IAF haven even integrate them on their SU30MKI yet. Integration problems can crop up anytime. If they succeed, the Malaysian SU30MKM might not because Malaysian uses different avonics and system and hence, problems might also crop up.
For the moment, I think the Aster-15s are capable of defending us against current type of ASM and cruise missile.
Actually it is much more eaiser. It will be travelling a straight line. It isn't going at Mach 8 or something you know.Originally posted by beavan:not to say that it's more difficult to take out because it's moving so fast

Reconfiguration is definitely possible. Just take out and insert new modules into the hull. But it also means changing the 4 x 8-cell A43 VLS to another 4 x 8-cell A70 VLS. That costs money. Lots of money. We must know that our Mindef always buy things for the future uses. It doesn't make sense to buy them and put them aside after just a few years of using them.Originally posted by storywolf:For your information , the VLS on our frigate can be reconfigurate to carry different type of missiles.
