Do Singapore needs battleships like the Iowa class?

I guess grandeur will post this soon,so might as well post for him first...
We should buy one of these WW2 BBs from the USN junkyard and form our own Surface Action Group(SAG). The typical compostion of such a SAG would be
1 BB,2 of our Stealth frigates and 4 Victory-class MCVs as escorts.Whenever those people quarrel with us,we just send the SAG to patrol their waters...Imagine the deterence those 16 inch babies have on them...
In the event of war,those 16 inch babies can be used to soften up coastal defences before our Guards storm the beachhead...

It is again unrealistic. Besides being manpower intensive and costly to mantain such a big battleship it is also obsolete by todays standards. A few well placed anti-ship missiles can easily sink it. And along with it a few hundred of our navy men. I am not saying naval guns are useless but naval battles are mainly about missiles and torpedoes now. The powerful guns are excellent against coastal combardment but we also have other alternatives like better ammunition for our current smaller calibre naval guns. Much like what is happening in modern air to air combat is mainly between missiles and little of dogfights with guns.

It's a big sitting duck ....and the maintenance cost is the same as a aricraft carrier that's y the American are decomissioning it...and besides we do not have the manpower to man such huge battleship....

Its usually used by the marines for arty bombardment before the marine breach the beach. It is a sea fortress though but the threats are equally high from the air. Unless you got a air craft carrier around... Singapore should develop advanced missile systems... particularly 3G technology where they can engaged enemy without even seeing them... That way it's more money for value since we are have more missile boat than any of our neighbour.

marco, there is a reason why people don't use these things anymore. They're all obselete, and it wouldn't justify putting men in these machines to die needlessly.

Too bad there isn't a ship that can scare the shit of your enemy when he look at it.
Compare to a aircraft carrier with planes far away to a battleship with its 16-inch gun pointing directly at you.
Any chance of making a modern day battleship with modern day technology? A stealth battleship may work...depending how good the stealth tech is, making it down to a size of a corvette until the enemy see the BB...deterence... -
The only BB I want to have right now is the assortment of BB guns (Airsoft)
