The Endurance class amphibious transport docks are the biggest class of ships in the RSN. They were designed and built locally by ST Marine to replace the old County class tank landing ships. Each ship is fitted with a well dock which can accommodate four landing craft, as well as a flight deck which can accommodate two medium lift helicopters
And who said a V/STOL aircraft needs to be manned....... Harriers are yesterday's story.
"Ships Taken Up from Trade" sounded good for cutting cost and speeding up for building one during critical time.Originally posted by ChineseJunk:[quote]Originally posted by duotiga83:
Don't forget that Singapore owns a sizeable merchant marine, especially NOL's fleet of sizeable container ships.
During a POT, these civil resources could be requisitioned and employed as what the Royal Navy calls "Ships Taken Up from Trade" (STUF).
To enable hostile missles to strike with more accuracy ??Originally posted by ferryman2393:I think SG also looked like a huge aircraft carrier from the air.
Maybe in the near future, SG will come out with the technology one day to enable the whole island to lift itself up and go wherever it wanted to.
Now, that would be something.

Please don't mention F-35. We won't be smelling it for the next 10 years, if ever.

Not true at all... It was revealed last year by the US that Singapore was one of the potential export customers to be given priority for early delivery of the F-35. (From JDW) However delays in the program have pushed proposed delivery dates to a more realistic 2014. Given the need to replace aged F-5 fighters, it is simply not possible to wait 10 or 20 years.Originally posted by alwaysdisturbed:nt even 20 i tink...
being one of the researchin partners, its nt surprising...but whether it happens...is another thing...Originally posted by ^Delta^:Not true at all... However, expect fierce competition from Dassault and EADS which are expected to pitch their wares once again with advanced variants of the Rafale and Eurofighter respectively, along with Saab offering an advanced Gripen if the RSAF opts for a less expensive option. More F-15 Strike Eagles may be ordered beyond the requirement of 40 if all options fail.
Yeah man... Even though I hope to see a Rafale or Eurofighter in RSAF colours rather than the F-35, I still wish for the problems to be ironed out soon lest the RSAF still decides on it.Originally posted by alwaysdisturbed:being one of the researchin partners, its nt surprising...but whether it happens...is another thing...
tot there's a conflict pertainin to the partners involvin the f 35 project?
its predictable...Originally posted by ^Delta^:Yeah man... Even though I hope to see a Rafale or Eurofighter in RSAF colours rather than the F-35, I still wish for the problems to be ironed out soon lest the RSAF still decides on it.
I can think of 3 conflicts so far regarding the F-35 project. The British, for instance are not pleased that they would be offered a downgraded version with reduced stealth capabilities. The Norwegians have also expressed similar disatisfaction. The Israelis are interested in acquiring 100 aircraft to replace F-16A/Bs but are not allowed to integrate their own indigenious sensors and weapons.
I heard the Typhoon had a very bad evaluation report by the RSAF ... Maybe when Eurofighter has more or less confirm its technology and system, then do the pitch again ba ...Originally posted by ^Delta^:Yeah man... the main reason is the avioinics system integration cant keep up with our operational date which is 2008-9 though in the reports they have shot us our falcons down......Originally posted by gd4u:I heard the Typhoon had a very bad evaluation report by the RSAF ... But for Rafale, i think RSAF will buy it, after all, y buy only 8+12 F-15SG. I think the sale of F-15 is for political face only, after tt, i think RSAF will still buy Rafale ...

You mean to build it in the US? Will US allow singapore to do that?Originally posted by gd4u:ST Marine got a VT Halter Marine (correct name, right?) based in the US. I think tt dock should be large ...
Spore will NEVER ever build or even buy an aircraft carrier.Originally posted by duotiga83:mr threadstarter wants to know here.......
I don't expect them to sell such cutting edge technology freely. Similary ours will be another reduced in capability version. Now since you can't add third party stuff in. Makes it very difficult to see IOC.Originally posted by ^Delta^:Not true at all...
