It looks like a South Korean assault rifle (Daewoo K2), magazine housing empty, inverted and mounted on an raised pole. It looks like some kind of a remote control weapon system with sensors for guarding the entrance to a gate. The site is probably at the DMZ or some South Korean military facility.

That reminds me of the remote controlled rifles in MI:3 when they wre rescuing Lindsay Farris. Are there really such weapon systems? Are they accurate?

Looks like it has dual sensor EO on top (CCD top and IR below). Laser range finder(lower box). I suspect its linked up to some fire control system. Maybe an expermential system, coz 30rds on a remote weapon, dun think will be of much use.

from the pic. i guess a simple way of disarming the dam thing is to jus get a sniper to blast the exposed electrical wiring tts exposed on the pole

No need to blast the wiring. Just blast the whole lot. Much easier ma.
But why the need to have the rifle upside down? Can't they figure out to put it upright and at least house the whole thing under some form of cover.

Hmm,perhaps its easier to change mags for the weapon this way. However, if its a 30round mag, won't it like defeat the purpose? Perhaps a drum mag or a belt of linked ammo would have been a better choice?
