It seems inevitable that Iran would be the next flashpoint. But how will the UN or US handle Iran?
Will it be an Afghanistan style operation, mainly of SOF and resistance forces to overthrow the current government?
Or will it be like Iraqi Freedom? Full scale invasion of Iran.
Or will it be like kosovo. Air strike after air strike after air strike?
Perhaps they might get sanctioned to submission?

I dun think the americans will find it easy to fight the iranians, the iranians fought the numerically and technologically superior iraqi's into a stalemate in the 8 year war, is not so easy lah. Somemore there is no basis to go to war with iran, iran is not harboring any terrorists that the americans are after.
I think what will happen is like this. The iranians will do a nuclear test on their own soil that will be picked up by amercian satelites. Americans and UN will vote for embargo against iran, maybe moscow and china will not vote. If bush want to press for war, the iranians will do a long range missile test that can fly over vew thousand kilometers, the americans will take the hint and back off.
Then after a few years and maybe under a new american administration they will find an excuse to friend iran again and make money by selling them everything from F16 jet fighters to tanks to commercial development etc ...
just like what happen to pakistan and india lor... under clinton admin both did a nuclear test both kanna embargoed by americans and allies then shortly under bush admin 9/11 happened pakistan became useful ally again and indian intelligence was roped into the war against terror ... both convieniently resumed relations with USA ... aiyah no war one lah. -

I personally believe a full scale war with Iran will not be possible.
Bush already is in deep trouble for getting US into Iraq based on false allegations that they have WMD. Now they are basically stuck there as they cannot pull out before a credible and friendly Iraqi governmnet which can maintain law and order in Iraq is in place. This Iraq war is getting too many US soldiers killed and is increasingly unpopular in US and in the international community. Blair is against getting UK into Iran. At this point of time starting another war will almost definitely be political suicide of the Bush administration. Iran can easily increase US's problems coverty by training Iraqi insurgents, supplying weapons and explosives and even send in their own men disguised as terrorists to create more chaos in Iraq. US knows they are already doing so but, this sort of thing very hard to find concrete evidence.
I think they will try to resolve this diplomatically but its not going to work because Iran knows that US already got its hands full in Afganistan and Iraq. International embargoes also have little effect as China and Russia will exercise veto. Even is passed enforcement is going to be a problem due to lack of resources. I think at the very most will be air strikes but that runs the risk of retaliation by Iran on coalition troops and Israel with ballistic missiles possibly armed with nuclear weapons or chemical and biological ones.

WAR Soon?
Israel successfully launched a highly accurate imaging satellite on April 25 which will enhance its ability to spy on Iran, an official said.
Israeli Defence Minister Shaul Mofaz said this week that the nuclear program being pursued by arch-foe Iran was the most serious threat faced by Jews since the Nazi Holocaust.
"The launching of the satellite was successful," an official with the manufacturer ImageSat International said.
It would be established whether the satellite was operational in the coming days, Israeli media reported. The launching took place in the Russian Far East.
Shimon Eckhaus, the firmÂ’s chief executive, told Reuters earlier on April 25: "The capabilities of the satellite speak for themselves. I do not need to say anything about what the purpose of its use might be."
A report in Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth said the Eros B satellite has a camera which can distinguish objects on the ground as small as 70 centimeters (about two feet) across.
Eckhaus confirmed the accuracy of the published details to Reuters.
The report said Eros B will join an earlier version of the satellite, launched in December 2000. Both are set to augment the work of IsraelÂ’s declared spy satellite, Ofek 5, which regularly passes over Arab territory.
The Yedioth report said Israel was planning to send up another spy satellite with the ability to view objects in all weather conditions and in darkness. The Eros satellites are effective only in daylight and in clear visibility.
The launch comes at a time of heightened tension over IranÂ’s nuclear program.
The United States accuses Iran of seeking to build nuclear bombs and has refused to rule out military options if diplomacy fails to curb the Islamic RepublicÂ’s atomic ambitions. Iran says its nuclear program is peaceful and aimed at generating electricity.

JERUSALEM - IRAN has received a first shipment of missiles from North Korea that are capable of reaching Europe, Israel's military intelligence chief was yesterday quoted as saying.
Known in the West as BM-25s, the Russian-designed missiles have a range of around 2,500km, giving them a longer reach than Iran's own Shihab-4 missiles, which are capable of hitting Israel.
The intelligence chief, Major-General Amos Yadlin, was quoted by Israel's Haaretz newspaper as saying that some BM-25s had arrived in Iran. The missile was originally manufactured in the Soviet Union, where it was known as the SSN6, and is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. -

When the Russian(builder and supplier) says it they are not, The IAEA says Iran has not broken any NPT rules and Iran is the only country that allowed IAEA inspection team to inspect their progress volunteerily.
The 3% refine Nuclear fuel that Iran has successfully made were done in the lab, that any top Universities can do. There only about 1500 contrifuge right now in Iran, they need more than 150,000 contrifuge to refine military grade fuel to make nukes.....
Next week will be interesting.... Saudi Arabia (OPEC) has mentioned that they might accept Euro too. -

Gary Franchi - Chicago, IL 4-20-06 One of our Loyal Lone Lanterns has just informed us that the National Guard will be doing a training assignment in Chicago. This field exercise will be to simulate a chemical attack, whereby the National Guard will coordinate with local police, fire depts, and hospitals. One of the hospitals participating will be Rush.
1) Exercise starts as a response to a pandemic spreading throughout Chicago. It could be anything from a terrorist attack to bird flu. Nobody knows.
2) As the different groups are responding to this pandemic, there is a dirty bomb attack which releases a chemical agent.
3) If all of that is not enough, the dirty bomb collapses a building.
We do not have an exact location where this is happening, the National Guard doesnÂ’t even know. It is supposed to simulate a real life situation so, nobody knows until it starts.
It will be May 2-4.
Considering that "drills" were taking place the morning of 9/11 and 7/7 there is always the remote possibility that this is cover for another "inside job". We pray to God that it is not.
Chicago, be alert that Tuesday, May 2nd, Wednesday, May 3rd, and Thursday, May 4th.

Iran 'attacks Iraq Kurdish area'
Iraq has accused Iranian forces of entering Iraqi territory and shelling Kurdish rebel positions in the north.
Iranian troops bombed border areas near the town of Hajj Umran before crossing into Iraq, the defence ministry in Baghdad said on Sunday.
It said the Iranians targeted the PKK, a Kurdish group that has waged a 15-year insurgency against Turkey.
The PKK is believed to have links with anti-Iranian Kurdish fighters. There are no details on casualties.
The Iraqi defence ministry also says Iran launched a similar attack on Kurdish rebel positions in the same area on 21 April.
There are no reported comments from Tehran on either of the alleged incidents.

The kurdish is already operating in Iran.. scouting and indentifying military targets for the US. Quite a few were already caught .. just that the Western media doesn't report it.

Use the kurds to piss the Iranians off enuff to launch a small attack into Iraqi territory, den US can officially step in to "defend" Iraq, and its own interest there.
