- In June 1996, Nicholson went to Singapore on personal travel. Two known SVRR intelligence officers from Moscow were in Singapore while Nicholson was there. While in Singapore, Nicholson used his counter-surveillance techniques before meeting with Russian intelligence officers at a remote location. Nicholson was not authorized to make the contact. After the contact, Nicholson made several large cash transactions involving approximately $20,000.Can someone teach me some counter surveillance technique?
The last line is uncalled for..Originally posted by Fatum:there's a parliamentary report every year about people being caught and detained for espionage activities ... and there was this CIA agent caught trying to influence the outcome of the local elections way back to toe 60s I believe ...
I wonder how many foreign chaps are deep penetration agents in the opposition parties ? ...

Well, very often the case officers operate under None Official Covers. Hence when they are caught, they do not have diplomatic immunity and can be imprisoned indefinitely. Usually, they would be treated well, so that they can be used to exchange for their own case officers or converted to be a double agent. Official covers sometimes invite unnecessary surveillance.Originally posted by decepticon25:Thsoe who got are usually locals recruited to conduct espionage in their own country. thsoe who recruit them are case officers whose primary job are to find ppl willing to do so, mostly for cash. if the agents were caught they might face the firing squad or like our country detained under ISA to be debriefed/interrogated. if a case officer is caught most likely he would be sent home because most of them would have diplomatic immunity ie. cover jobs in their embassy as a diplomat.
well, since you mentioned that having different ideals is normal, I shall comment further on that then ... that's fodder for speaker's corner eh ? ...Originally posted by LazerLordz:The last line is uncalled for..
Sometimes, ideals are more important than political succession, having different ideals is normal, and we should not regress to the dark ages where being a politician from another party was viewed with suspicion and distrust.
not quite ... they'll be squeezed dry of course ... but unless it's outright war, spies are not usually shot .... the exception would be captured israeli spies in the middle east ... they are invariably killed if they are caught ...Originally posted by tankee1981:Yes usually captured spies are not killed as they are worth more alive than dead. Once captured they will be 'downloaded' for any useful information.
Originally posted by nismoS132Assuming this is true,I am quite surprised at this . Does this mean that we have a group of commandoes and/or SOF planted in target countries and that they are to carry out assasinations and sabotage when hostilities break out? This sort of reminds me of the Soviet Spetnaz during the Cold War.
i don't know how true this is, but a commando i used to know told me he was once offered a special contract, lumpsum is 6 digit and he will be stationed overseas under a new identity for several years and is not supposed to return to singapore unless necessary.
what are the chances of it being the other way around ? ...Originally posted by riken1974:Hmmm...wonder if any of our agent can make it to become their country's minister....just like that Mossad's agent who almost become Syria's defence minister.....

You may be right, but I'd prefer to take what this nation says with a pinch of salt too.Originally posted by Fatum:well, since you mentioned that having different ideals is normal, I shall comment further on that then ... that's fodder for speaker's corner eh ? ...
but it has happened before, as I've pointed out, you don't think it'll happen again ? ... check out those yearly parliamentary reports ... foreign agents being caught and deported for "attempting to subvert local community organizations " ... what do you think those organizations are ? ... people's association ? ...
(ps: bro, ideals are fine and dandy, but remember this, different ideals and flavors of goverment are but a means to an end, not an end in itself, ... know what i mean ? )
