But can the old airframes sustain usage anymore?Originally posted by four-niner:chinook for heavy lift lah but so far there are many operations that dun always require heavy lift so burning the fuel on a chinook to do light duty dunno cost effective or not.
But I read somewhere old uh-1h can convert into light gunship so still got some pratical value there

brudder. do you even know what you're talking about?Originally posted by teddy123:Light duty can be perform by Superpuma.
With the introduction of heli-borne artillery pieces such as LWSH & SRAM on Spider. You need more heavylift heli to transport not only the guns, but also to resupply them with those heavy 155 & 120mm shell.
What I am advocating is instead of having more light/medium heli & less heavylift heli like everbody else. We have a 50/50 ratio.
We will be able to do more with less.
wtf u talking. can dont give us so many work load anot!!! NDP coming leh. small small things let SP doOriginally posted by teddy123:should be CH-47 Chinook
Same number of flight crew but big increase in payload capability. One way to do more with less people.
Meaning more heavylift(CH-47) than mediumlift(SP) transport heli in our Orbat.
2 types of transport heli(CH-47, SP) rather than 3 types(CH-47,SP,Blackhawk?).
Replace SuperPuma with Blackhawk when their time is up so as to achieve commonality with Navy Seahawks.
Good idea ?
Look at the amount of sterling work they did during the Tsunami and Katrina crisis.
Why not convert 120 Sq into a heavylift outfit ?
yeah, small small things. like not blowing people's houses away with downwash and causing more damage?Originally posted by martin_lim85:wtf u talking. can dont give us so many work load anot!!! NDP coming leh. small small things let SP do

originally posted by kopiosatuIf what kopiosatu said is true, with the retirement of Huey, all the 'small small things" SP have to take over.
]there's no need for replacement for helicopters at the time being because the pumas are almost full strength.

we are already taking over.Originally posted by teddy123:If what kopiosatu said is true, with the retirement of Huey, all the 'small small things" SP have to take over.
simple. SP has higher role ability than a chinook. there are many things people fail to see in the SP.Originally posted by teddy123:Care to elaborate more ?
Meaning which part you feel I dont know what I am talking about.
no need to think so muchOriginally posted by four-niner:see,
puma is good but I think quite costly somemore I heard ah last time we got our UH for almost free or peeka lao sai maybe refurbished condition like aid package or something. And until unless we can get chinook or puma deal at firesale prices I dun think can expect replacement for UH soon lor.
See, outside selling 2nd hand UH-1H for almost 3million dollars, then the better puma will cost us hw much to replace for all? if need few hundred million then buy helicopter carrier better lar at least can still use UH for seaborne operation mah then F16 can land and CBG ....
Anyway even if they are thinking to replace the UH I believe they will get the license to assemble for EC-130 or EC-135 lar, just like what they did for the EC-120.
Agreed!!
50/50. then maintenance, flying hours, servicing? to meet flying hours they have to fly, in the end they still burn more fuel and doesn't save cost at all.Originally posted by teddy123:Light duty can be perform by Superpuma.

i'm about to slam the chinook community, but nevermind la.Originally posted by martin_lim85:yalor yalor wait need to pay money ar
right... if i can remember this thread i'll bring this 'prediction' up and disappoint you.Originally posted by teddy123:These are our current transport helicopter inventory:
16 CH-47SD Chinook
34 AS332M/AS532UL Super Puma/Cougar
120 Sq has converted into a attack Heli Sq.
and I heard that RSAF is looking to procure additional Chinook CH-47F
So our future transport helicopter make up should be around:
34 medium lift helicopter
(20-30) heavy lift helicopter
I see...
Pretty close to my prediction

i'm not proud but i do see things which people don't get to see. so there is a reason for my negative feelings towards that aircraft that people don't understand.Originally posted by teddy123:You must be a proud member from the Superpuma community
CH-47 has been under the limelight
Countries like South Korea, SIngapore & Indonesia wants to order more of them after seeing how it perform during the crisis.
There must be a reason for that...
True, you only see Chinook unloading supplies to refugee on TV but not other heli like Superpuma...
