Significant increases in speed (up to 2 to 3 times increase in cross-country speed), manoeuverability and comfort are achieved.
Timoney or Timoney-designed suspensions are fitted to in-production vehicles such as the ADI Bushmaster, Singapore Technologies KineticÂ’s Terrex AV 81 and the Bronco ATTC, the Textron ASV and many more.
Think airforce will still use V200 for their RBS-70 lah. The Terrex will probably complement the Bionix & M113 for army use.Originally posted by Delta 5:Finally! Had been awaiting this news for a very long time...
I guess this means the end of the line for our long serving V150 and V200 APCs... Time for them to be dismantled and sold as scrap metal
I wonder what the armament fit will be...Originally posted by tankee1981:This is great news! Maybe SAF's procurement of Terrex will help boost its overseas sales,if the country which makes it choose not to use it, this doesn't speak very well of the product right?
300 is quite a large number! I suspect they may not be used just to replace the V200s. I wonder what will be the different configurations and will they be organised to fight like the Strykers in US? This is really exciting with so much possibilities!

Terrex was featured in Pioneer magazine some time ago. I recall they mentioned it came in 3 variants: IFV, APC and tank killer with a 105mm main gun. The last option sounds interesting.Originally posted by Delta 5:I wonder what the armament fit will be...
Will it be basic weaponry such as a 7.62mm/12.7mm MG or will the SAF opt for the 30mm Bushmaster II? Perhaps even a twin launcher for Spike missiles as well
Dunno what it uses but if memory serves correctly, Pioneer said it was amphibious.Originally posted by fudgester:Truth be told, I don't like wheeled vehicles. They may be suited for stealth FIBUA ops as they are generally quieter. However, the wheels are more vulnerable to small-arms fire. They also sink in mud more easily and are more likely to set off anti-tank mines (both due to higher ground pressure).
Also, our M113 Ultras, Bionixs, and Broncos are all amphibious with some minor preparations. They can all swim using their tracks. Does anyine know whether the Terrex has propellors or waterjets to make it amphibious?
Actually I favour a return to the old style armoured force which emphasizes armour and firepower. I cannot imagine American forces with Strykers taking on T-80s, T-90s or Type 90/98 MBTs in a war against potential adversaries. Just say that staring down the barrel of 125mm armed tanks with just a vehicle armed with a small autocannon and limited numbers of ATGWs is not an attractive option.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Is it just me or is the SAF becoming a clone of the US Army in terms of doctrine and tactics, not to mention Orbat re-org and uniform design?
We are like Mini-me.
Precisely, but realisitcally speaking, the era of open battle between armoured divisions on plains are over.Originally posted by Delta 5:Actually I favour a return to the old style armoured force which emphasizes armour and firepower. Precisely... I am glad the SAF still has MBTs in serviceOriginally posted by LazerLordz:Precisely, but realisitcally speaking, the era of open battle between armoured divisions on plains are over.
Still we need good ol MBTs for those thunder runs. Nothing beats shaking the enemy with the blast of a 120mm main gun at urban distance.
