I believe the Akash missile program has been terminated as the system did not meet the expectations of the Indian Army and was too costly. Instead, additional S-300PMU2 and S-300V systems will be procured from Russia which will be integrated with the Israeli-built Green Pine radar.
This is totally untrue. I think you meant the Trishul (Trident Missile). The Akash missile has cleared the stringent requirements of the Indian Army and they will be replacing the older russian sam's. India is also looking to the S-300 to be used against Ballistic missiles. In the article it is mentioned that the Akash along with the S-300 will be linked to the Green pine radar. The Akash is a cost effective solution to counter the aircraft threat. It was developed as an anti-aircraft missile. Now they are improving it to be used as an ABM. -

No one really knows how many Tomcats the Iranians have airworthy. Was doing a bit of read up on their Tomcats combat history in their prev war in Iraq. It was pretty spectacular stuff. The Iraqi airforce pretty much turn tail and ran whenever they detected the presence of a single Tomcat in the area. As for the Hawk integration, I haven't really found any documents on how effective this integration was. Anyone can help?

SAF seems to prefer buying from Uncle Sam.

Uncle Sam also provides quality equipment. But it is too costly.
A major problem with U.S equipment is that there will be lot of restrictions. During war time they will call the shots, when to stop the war. When to announce the ceasefire etc. Better say a lot of pressure will be applied by the U.S. If they did not heed then US will put sanctions crippling their military. -

I am an Indian. Let me make some adjustments to the avatar etc so that no one gets confused.
And if you are asking me why I am not doing an impartial assesment, then let me tell you that the Akash sytem is a very capable system and is accepted by the Indian Army, Airforce. It will be Cheap and by the kind of friendship existing b/w Singapore and India, SP may even get to licence produce the missile in Singapore. -
Sounds like something we can use to shoot at our A-4s to see if it really works as advertised. Any pilots wanna volunteer?

I think it will take a decades for it to reach maximun range of 60km,plus it is based on SA-6 system which is hardly worthy... Arjun,don't be too nationalistic and introduced anything just becos it is MADE IN INDIA! -

This was a long back. A lot of tests has taken place, I think the 60km version must have already been tested. Just because it is based on SA-6 will not mean it is unworthy. It is a new missile with the latest tech included into it. It is not anything, if the IA has accepted this missile shows the capabilities of this missile. -
