Replacement for RSAF C-130H?

Hmmmz, the Spectre gunships would be good to have.imagine one swooping over your heads and tearing the hell outta the enemy in a FIBUA environment. Way cool as a fire support platform. Limitiation is that they can't be effectively employed in the day for fear of getting shot down.

These AC-130H Spectre and AC-130U Spooky gunships can only operate under complete air superiority where even the threat of MANPADS is to the lowest possible point. This is because they operate as close ground support and as a heavily armed transport plane, its very slow. The only possible defence from aerial and ground threats is from the countermeasures. So i think its a good to have plane but something that we can certainly do without.

US has offer C5 to Sg at US$200 m each. Sg is looking into it. -

It was offer new, they going to end he production for USAF soon. They need new order inorder not to close down the production line. As shown in the above, C-17 can transport Chinook. remember we have chinook or apache training oversea, if we need to transport back, we don't have to hire from commerical source which is expensive and can not be done in secret.
Since we are using Chinooks & apaches, C-17 may be expensive then A400m but at least it can do what we need it to do. If A400M cannot do it , no matter how good it is, or how many soldiers or pallets it can carry, without the big play stuff it is still not good enough -
If we only wanted 4 why not buy another 4 KC-135R tankers they r fitted we cargo doors n can use as transports cum tankers wouldnt it be more cost- effective??

If the deal goes through, the RSAF will have an impressive airlift capability for a Southeast Asian nation. Look at the Orbat below for our transport assets... (All listed are open domain and available from any defence magazine or RSAF website)

USD200 mil a piece astronomical price to pay for an aircraft and we want to buy 5 somemore, why we need such a huge plane? 1 BILLION DOLLAR LEH!!
1 F16 cost abt 30mil
1 BILLION = 33 new F16

cant we buy a few boeing commercial jetliners, rip out all the seats+nintendo gameboy consoles, add an automated loading/unloading ramp, spray paint it grey if you want.

personally, i will be surprised if the RSAF make a commitment to buy the C-17.
Even the RAF actually "leased" the C-17 rather then buy it.
it is just too costly.
but then, we do have a unique need, in that many of our "assets" are based overseas and in the event of an emergency we might need to deploy them back to singapore.
I know the F16s can ferry and we have the KC-135 to support, but the superpumas will need to be ferried back.
