One of 2 Pakistani AF pilot involved in prototype-3 (PT-3) JF-17/FC-1 test flight in 2004.
Full production of 400 units under license by PAC Pakistan is expected beginning 2007.

According to SINA, PT4 will be subjected to more complete and integrated testings rather than dedicated system trials as in the first 3 prototypes. Amongst the enhancement includes the DSI air intake.
The current production JF-17 (Pakistan variant) is based on PT3 while future series may incooperate the PT04 feature as noted in AA exhibit model using "JF-17" designation.
04 1st flight is schedule around 'early' this year.

According to the Chinese CCTV news report, the C-ockpit of FC-1 featuring 3 large size MFDs is on par with that of the latest version of F16.

This is integrated with IRSTS & CLDP

Essentially this means the FC-1 is more than a match with versions of F16C at a cheaper price. That explains why Pakistan op to cooperate with China on the production rather than getting more Vipers from US. Also partly due to earlier cancellation of a fighter program with US.

FC-1 would be a cheap and affordable plane for basic defence needs in the 21st century. But I think the deep strike capability and use of guided weaponary for ground attack would be limited on this plane.
