I have to agree with some - given 0.338 match grade rounds with sniper rifle - I would take the shot, anytime. Its an experience for non-snipers.

Spoke to the snipers there today. Official statement is that the PGM Mini Hecate .338 is to replace the Styer SSG as the primary weapon of the INFANTRY sniper.So L96A1 will still remain in use by the CDOs.
Btw,anybody saw the SIG Commando there? -

But nonetheless, it's interesting that they used it in SAFISAM, guess that's a good place to test new weapons....why not pull in the howitzers also -

STimes 25.02.2006 reports that it can hit a playing card fr 600 meters. -
Just saw it earlier at Asian Aerospace. Its listed as 8kg! Man that's a heavy weopon to lug around. Especially if you need to do deep insertion missions. Supposedly effective out to 1000 metres.

Oh yes, they brought it to SAFISAM because COA nv fired the weapon before.. they wan to let him try it out n comment. Frankly, the comments weren't good..

Hmmm ... obviously you have not fired a sniper rifle. Yes it is possible to hit a playing card out from 600m. The bulleyes in the practicing target is less than 3 inches wide. From 600m out, one can hit it with proper training and zeroing. Onced the scope is zeroed to your rifle we can easier put in 7/10 in the bulls eye. However, it is hard, but not impossible, to put one in during live firing ... fatigue, stress, heat, wind, lighting and terrain makes it hard to judge the distance and make fine zeroing. -
in fact, the barrel heavier easier to hit the bullseye... hhaha, and the new rifle does have a heavier barrel.

COA is not a SME on Sniper Rifles. I don't think he was sniper trained.
