SAF New Sniper Rifle: PGM Mini Hecate .338 to replace SSG 69

Attended the SAFISAM finals on 17th Feb @ neesoon 500m open range.
toward the end of the whole event, i noticed "crabs & stars" crowding at the firing point and heard uncommon shots being fired. Curious so i went up to them to take a look @ the commotion.
What i saw gave dropped my jaw.
COA firing a never seen before sniper rifle. I took pics of him shooting & of the rifle itself.
Looks v menacing and urban.
Poked ard the area for awhile before realising i'm the only LCP around all the "seafoods"
They had extra rounds left and asked if anyone wanted to try. Lol... a Colonel asked me to give it a shot but i politely declined the invitation.
Hmm.... shld i post up the pics? meanwhile i did a lil search on the net about this rifle and got up this webby with full details of it.

What the heck, you mean you were offered and you declined?? You need to go see the MO man! I would have happily finished the rounds.
The rifle looks realy heavy tho. Can't imagine it being anywhere close to the weight of the SSG69. Wouldn't want to lug one around for long distances. -

So you will find them at brigade level. But not all brigades have snipers all the time because manpower shortage. -

my SAF Shooting Contingent CSM told me they were considering the Accuracy International L96.
Why they choose this in the end?
Did COA pass technical handling before shooting at the range?

Err.. apparently no tech handling tho... -
If this rifle is heavy,perhaps it would be used by 6SIR for defensive purposes, eg. Installation Protection so that they can take down vehicular bombs etc. So far, the local snipers i've spoken to say that SAF Snipers for field/jungle warfare carry the lighter ones while Installation Protection snipers carry the heavier stuff, for more stability.
Imagine lugging 6-8kgs of weapon alone,compared with like 3-4kg. -

My friend's a division level sniper and he's getting this new rifle. Was complaining about the weight heh.
If i recall correctly it's about 800gms heavier or something heh maybe i'll ask him. -

Isnt there a thread somehwere here before? that the British Army L96 sniper rifle has been selected?
But I prefer the PGM to the L96. -

What's the annual meet where the SSC will go other countries to shoot?
the other time was held at Malaysia. Our tonner go to JB to meet up with their tonner, lots of "fatigue work" transfering stores from our tonner to theirs.
simply because military vehicles require some inter-government diplomatic clearance.. so they just took the easy way out. -

The role of anti-materiel squads is well-known throughout the world, and 6SIR being the POI SME unit, it's logical that they will have a wide varieties of weapons.
Furthermore, they were shown to the public at the demonstrations.
So lay off the vulgarities yeah. -

har? I thot our SDF1 was deployed along with 2 squadrons of VF-1s to IRAQ as part of peacekeeping effort?
