it was because of this that military advisers like max bauer and alexander von falkenhausen were sent to china to train nationalist troops.
furthermore, german military advisers also meant a favoured position for german arms industries.
but this whole plan was de-railed by joachim von ribbentrop and his "dienststelle ribbentrop", who hijacked the wehrmacht initiative and aggressively promoted imperial japan as germany's ally.
the wilhelmstrasse, the german foreign ministry, headed by von neurath, was basically powerless in the midst of all this... von neurath was not a very energetic individual and much preferred it if everything was left alone as it was.
eventually, the german military advisers were withdrawn and japan replaced china as germany's ally in the far east.
i'm sure chiang kai shek loved the uniforms and the salutes, but he was a far cry from being a serious fascist... he was just a corrupt old fashion chinese despot. -

If i am not wrong alexander von falkenhausen did continue to stay in China,
eventually, the german military advisers were withdrawn and japan replaced china as germany's ally in the far east.

However, he was acquitted and released three weeks into his sentence after overwhelming evidence proved that von Falkenhausen tried to save as many Jews and Belgians as possible from deportation and execution. Falkenhausen died on July 31, 1966." -

It was a German milltary advisor who came up with the encirclement tactic used to contain COmmunist troops. I just can't remember his name off the top of my head right now.
However, Mao Zedong and the Red Army managed to evade the KMT forces and set off on the Long March. -
