It's quite easy if you know the country and the pennant number. Here's something else exciting today. A Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate, the USS Gary (FFG 51), sporting a SH-60 SeaHawk on its aft helicopter pad.

SUBMARINE HO! Pleasant surprise to see an SSN sailing on the surface a few hundred meters in front of the frigate. Almost missed it because it was so inconspicuous but couldn't identify it as pennant number was too small to make out but likely to be a Los Angeles class attack sub.

Pennant number 40. Appears to be belong to TNI-ALRI since there was what appears to be an Indonesian flag on its mast but the strange wordings by the side suggests otherwise. Anyone can identify it?

Could the flag be the normal protocol (of visiting foreign ships) to fly the flag of the country that the ship is sailing into? -
From the paint job it looks like a coast guard vessel. The words does look Indian to me too, but i could also mean that its Burmese as the way of writing is quite similar.Originally posted by Obersturmfuhrer:

btw when any sub transits sg waters or sg straits, there will sure be a RSN ship to escort it...
for security and safety...
sg straits is narrow and busy with traffic... some merchant vessels may not see it or radar cant detect then jialat if collided... so need escort -

I think its Indonesian but cannot confirm that. The ensign was too far to be clearly seen.

looks like it has "Soviet" lines.. if Indoenisan, maybe those that they bought from East Germany last time. -
im a noob when it comes to warships, can tell me the 'soviet' line on the ships?
I only know a lot of russian vessels have huge ass missile launchers. -
Ya e "soviet line" can clearly be seen mostly like an Indoenisan vessel
I remember some Malaysian vessel also have " soviet line"
