U.S. F-15 crashes into sea near Okinawa

NAHA — A U.S. F-15 jet fighter from Kadena Air Base crashed into the sea near an island in eastern Okinawa Prefecture on Tuesday morning and the pilot was ejected safely, according to the prefectural government.
The incident occurred in the Pacific Ocean about 70 kilometers east of Ikeijima Island at around 10 a.m., the local government said. The accident site is part of the air space used by the U.S. military for conducting drills, the Japanese Defense Agency said.

But every type of fighter or bomber operational today has had at least a few crashes... In fact the F-15 has an excellent safety record or low peacetime attrition compared to the Russian twin-engined warplanes such as the MiG-29 Fulcrum or MiG-31 Foxhound.
