agree lah... when up against the FACs, PVs and FFs in the region, a 500 lb warhead is probably sufficient.Originally posted by Shotgun:Perhaps if we were to be up against ships of DD class and above, i would agree that we need a bigger and longer reaching missile.
Looking at the waters around us, I really don't think we need a missile that can reach 500km or pack more than 500lb per warhead. When it comes to anti ship missiles, i believe most definitely more than 1 missile would be fired at each target since 1 on its own would most likely get shot down.
And as for a stealthy missile... well unless its seeker is of a passive nature. Maybe infra-red or tv guided. If its gonna be an active seeking missile, stealth is not gonna be a huge concern since the ESM of most ships would pick up the missiles radar?
I agree that we need missiles that are REALLY fast. The faster your bullet, the better the chances of the shooter's survival.
we have 16 chinooks?cool...tot RSAF onli had 6 of those birds when they're deployed to help tsunami victimsOriginally posted by Delta 5:The RSAF should acquire 10 more AH-64D Apaches and 4 more CH-47SD Chinooks.
The RSAF requirement was for 30 attack helicopters and 20 heavylift helicopters. So far only 20 Apaches and 16 Chinooks are in service.
Yup first order in 1994 comprising 6 CH-47D models and delivery was in 1996.Originally posted by ProudlySingaporean:we have 16 chinooks?cool...tot RSAF onli had 6 of those birds when they're deployed to help tsunami victims
Matador, Spike, Hellfire and even M203 targets! Now tat would make live firing a lot more interesting.Originally posted by Delta 5:I don't think they will even suffice as trainers... Probably the only fate that awaits them in a few years is dismantling and scrapping.![]()

we should take the AMX13 turrets, mount them on concrete montings... and then put them at key areas. like Changi naval base. sort of like coastal defenses. the manning requirements shouldn't be that harsh as the AMX13 is auto loading. just 2 man per turret. could be fully manned by reservists.Originally posted by abao:I want more defensive forts. Something like the concrete battleshipi noe its outdated thinking...
Of course, we need to get replacements for them first. Lots of replacements. And pronto.Originally posted by spencer99:we should take the AMX13 turrets, mount them on concrete montings... and then put them at key areas. like Changi naval base. sort of like coastal defenses. the manning requirements shouldn't be that harsh as the AMX13 is auto loading. just 2 man per turret. could be fully manned by reservists.
Stingray Mk II and the M8 AGS, both of U.S origin.Originally posted by fudgester:Of course, we need to get replacements for them first. Lots of replacements. And pronto.
Besides creating a locally-made light tank, are there any foreign-made light tanks which you guys suggest can be bought to replace the AMX-13?

Are our F-16 used for air superiority missions? because frm what i read, the JSF is optmised for precision attacks or strike missions, if so then wouldnt it not make sense to replace our F-16 with the JSF as they fulfil 2 diff roles. It would make more sense to procure the JSF to complement out F15s wouldnt it?Originally posted by Delta 5:Yes hopefully we will acquire a squadron of F-35B VTOL warplanes alongside larger numbers of the conventional F-35A. Anyone has a good guess as to when we will start retiring our F-16 fleet so as to justify acquiring larger numbers of these planes?
True... The JSF is meant as a replacement for the F-16, F/A-18, A-10 and AV-8B. Thus it is a multi-role aircraft that will fulfil several roles. Any project that is 'joint' will probably result in a fair aircraft with medium performance. This is unlike the F/A-22A which represents the highest end of warplane performance today.Originally posted by mrblitzer21:Are out F-16 used for air superiority missions? because frm what i read, the JSF is optmised for precision attacks or strike missions, if so then wouldnt it not make sense to replace our F-16 with the JSF as they fulfil 2 diff roles. F16s used for both AA/AG roles, i believeOriginally posted by mrblitzer21:Are our F-16 used for air superiority missions? because frm what i read, the JSF is optmised for precision attacks or strike missions, if so then wouldnt it not make sense to replace our F-16 with the JSF as they fulfil 2 diff roles.
