Looking at the waters around us, I really don't think we need a missile that can reach 500km or pack more than 500lb per warhead. When it comes to anti ship missiles, i believe most definitely more than 1 missile would be fired at each target since 1 on its own would most likely get shot down.
And as for a stealthy missile... well unless its seeker is of a passive nature. Maybe infra-red or tv guided. If its gonna be an active seeking missile, stealth is not gonna be a huge concern since the ESM of most ships would pick up the missiles radar?
I agree that we need missiles that are REALLY fast. The faster your bullet, the better the chances of the shooter's survival.

The RSAF should acquire 10 more AH-64D Apaches and 4 more CH-47SD Chinooks.
The RSAF requirement was for 30 attack helicopters and 20 heavylift helicopters. So far only 20 Apaches and 16 Chinooks are in service. -

6 advanced CH-47SD models were ordered in 1997 and an additional option of 4 was taken up. Delivery was in 1999-2000.
So 16 birds... The 6 early CH-47D have been upgraded to CH-47SD too. -

1) Better SBOs,
2) requip the entire army with better rifles than the SAR21 (this includes the poor PDF NSMen)
3) better bayonets
4) more helicopters (UH60s anyone?)
5) better signal sets (lighter, waterproof and more secure)
6) lighter helmets
7) more vehicles
better quadrant sights for the M203
9) lighter ground sheets
10) and finally lighter Entrenching Tools -
I want more defensive forts. Something like the concrete battleship i noe its outdated thinking...

we should take the AMX13 turrets, mount them on concrete montings... and then put them at key areas. like Changi naval base. sort of like coastal defenses. the manning requirements shouldn't be that harsh as the AMX13 is auto loading. just 2 man per turret. could be fully manned by reservists.Originally posted by abao:I want more defensive forts. Besides creating a locally-made light tank, are there any foreign-made light tanks which you guys suggest can be bought to replace the AMX-13? -

Are our F-16 used for air superiority missions? because frm what i read, the JSF is optmised for precision attacks or strike missions, if so then wouldnt it not make sense to replace our F-16 with the JSF as they fulfil 2 diff roles. True... The JSF is meant as a replacement for the F-16, F/A-18, A-10 and AV-8B. Thus it is a multi-role aircraft that will fulfil several roles. Any project that is 'joint' will probably result in a fair aircraft with medium performance. The current F-16s that we have are advanced models that will continue to pack a punch beyond 2010. However, when the need arises to replace them due to old age, it is unlikely that we will procure more powerful twin-engined fighters given the rapidly escalating costs of combat aircraft. Given the SAF's policy of 'cost effectiveness' and a close leaning towards Washington for the supply of military hardware, buying the JSF seems the only route our air force will take. It is unlikely that we will consider other single-engined options that will still be in production such as the JAS-39 Gripen or the projected Sukhoi S-55. Thus its not a matter of choice for the RSAF. The route has already been paved for us due to political issues or concerns of cost. -

True... But it seems a little odd if we use a Chinook or even a Super Puma to transport a section of 7 or 9 men.
Sometimes necessities such as light utility helicopters need to be given priority on the shopping list over purchases which can wait such as UAVs. I wonder why we have so many kinds of UAVs which basically fulfil the same role. -
Another thing would be at least another squadron of 20 F-15Ts for a total of 40. Ideally we should have 3 squadrons of 60 F-15Ts. Anyone think this might be possible?
