Jordan offers used F-5 jet fighters to Indonesia

Jordan has offered a number of US- made jet fighters F-5 Tigers to the Indonesian Military as a grant, a senior official said Thursday.
"Jordan has offered a grant of F-5 jet fighters and military vehicles that can be used by the Army and the Air Force. Basically, we accept the offer," Minister of Defense Juwono Sudarsono told reporters at his office here.
He made the remarks shortly after a meeting with visiting Jordanian Military Chief General Khalid Jamil.
Juwono said the offer came to Indonesia as the Jordanian government is rejuvenating its weaponry system, but the number of the offered jets and vehicles has not been made available.
The F-5 was developed with air-to-ground role by the US Military in 1962. Most country users have grounded the aging F-5 nowadays.

Wasn't that the same case when SG took in 4 F-5 from Jordan in 1994 as they had took in F-16?

they are too poor to maintain a strong military force. -
Not good to underestimate ppl like that u know. F-5s may be old, but they are still credible air defense fighters.

The can't afford a big plane fleet but we can.
The limited few f16 are still grounded due to poor maintance. Even if they purchased the F-5 our f16 alone out numbered them quite a large difference. -

and i seriously doubt they are interested in going to war.
our existiing spending is deterring enough. -
They are having a 40 naval ship exercise.
Most of those 40 ship still had AA guns attached to it

I'll rather use the ME-262 1a. At least its a turboprop plane, but the engine needs a lot of refinement. -
Deh... ME-262 is a jet plane leh. The first Jet plane of the war...
Used to play European Air War, WW2 flight sim.... those 262s have the ability to RIP through bomber formations like free one. Nothing much the escorting mustangs can do if the whole flight used hit and run tactics. Only can wait for us head on. -
I remember reading about an excercise somewhere that pitted old obsolete fighters with new ones and te old planes scored alarming number of victories against the new ones. Apparently, the slower speed meant more manueverability.
Can't remember the name of the aircraft types or the country where it happened. Getting old myself.
Also, in India they still find the MiG-21 a formidable fighter against he F-16 because it is such an agile aircraft in the hands of competent pilots.
So, yah, whether it is a football game, business pitch or war - never underestimate the opposition. -
Seriously, given competent pilots I doubt the old obsolete fighters would stand a chance. Simply cos modern fighters can climb a hell lot faster than the old fighters. That allows them to gain back Lost Potential energy quicker than the old farts.
Air combat is all about energy. How much potential energy to trade for kinetic. When to punch in the AB to regain it back. -
Another story about underdog aircrafts scoring success...
"Faith", "Hope" & "Charity" were the names of 3 famous British Gloster Gladiator biplanes that defended Malta against the Italian Airforce in WW2.
These 3 biplanes held off the Italian Airforce inflicting casualties until Hawker Hurricanes arrived. Although the Italians were also flying some biplanes at that time, most of their combat aircrafts were monoplanes.
So with pilot skills, determination and luck, who knows.

Yet another example of the underdog winning.
Finland suffered a Soviet invasion in the Winter War of 1939 to 1940. Finland is tiny and had a small obsolete airforce. Its troops fought bravely and its airforce repelled the Soviet airforce which suffered 5 times more casualties than the Finnish airforce.
Stupidly, the Finns decided to join Nazi Germany to attack the Russians in the Continuation War from 1941 to 1944.
