A former RSL officialsays the forthcoming execution of an Australian drug trafficker in Singapore may have led to a military exercise being cut short in central Queensland.
Former Rockhampton RSL president Keith Joyce says he has been told the Singapore Armed Forces have cut
the exercise at Shoalwater Baythe by a week, and are now due to fly out by December 2, the day that Van Nguyen is due to hang.
Mr Joyce says there is concern about a possible backlash towards Singapore troops in central Queensland.
He says Singapore's refusal to stop the execution is damaging valuable military ties.
"I see the aircraft coming over my house every day, the trucks going past with the armoured vehicles on them," he said.
"We have obviously a very close link with Singapore and if the pleas of our Government, of our Prime Minister and of our Foreign Minister aren't having any effect on them, it makes me wonder why we are so closely involved with them at all."
The real job is not hanging drug traffickers, but keeping dirty money out of our shores. Who knows how much Lo Hsin Han and his cronies have laundered in Singapore all htese years?Originally posted by BillyBong:My colleagues just returned from a business trip in Australia. They find the atmosphere normal, no anti-SG sentiments, mere hyped-up media campaigns against our nanny state over the hanging debacle.
Evidently, the general australian is not adversely against this execution.
After all, the international community once condemned SG for allowing drug smugglers to transit with impunity in SG, so we're just doing our JOB!

Greens leader Bob Brown says Singapore depends heavily on Australia as a station for more than a quarter of its overseas air force planes and up to 6,000 military personnel each year.Ok.Shall we call Beijing for ex. in Hainan Island---shorter distant??
He claims cutting military ties is one of the best ways to compel them to cancel, or at least delay, the hanging.

the only country that i can think of is the Phillipines .... am i right ? ...Originally posted by kurios55:actually a long time ago, when a certain someone was executed, Singapore troops on exercise in another country also pulled the same disappearing act. The exercise got cut short and they basically pulled out all the personnel except for a group of people.
I know cos I was one of those left behind..
I tell you, the feeling on the day of execution.. it was a very sian day for all of us still there.
And I can definitely identify with the media hyping up the whole event, cos when we read the local papers, it was like "Singaporeans deserve to die too!"

Sigh, the opposition always gets trarred by the same brush. IT is because of his attitude that is one reason for the divided opposition we have. How do you expect him to lead a coalition and sweep to power?Originally posted by LazerLordz:CSJ's actions might jeopardise the WP and SPP vote this time round, thankfully no one has chosen to endorse his words from the opposition camp.
I think CSJ should just get a rope, find a tall branch and hang himself.... no pun intended.Originally posted by LazerLordz:CSJ's actions might jeopardise the WP and SPP vote this time round, thankfully no one has chosen to endorse his words from the opposition camp.
SPP's lead by Chaim See Tong, bro ... who's quite a respectable chap .... (and a bloody enemy of Chee ..... ) I don't see how this would impact him ... I hope to see more chaps like him infact ... serious, respectable opposition ....Originally posted by LazerLordz:CSJ's actions might jeopardise the WP and SPP vote this time round, thankfully no one has chosen to endorse his words from the opposition camp.
yes.But you know how some Singaporeans are short-sighted and they might lump WP and SPP with the SDP...Originally posted by Fatum:SPP's lead by Chaim See Tong, bro ... who's quite a respectable chap ....
