anyone here likes to read about WW2 ? collect figurine of WW2 soldiers, tanks, ships, planes and etc?
just curious am i the odd freak here in singapore.

I once seen a photo of some Americans dressed up like colonial days soldiers with muskets AND try to renact American independence war. The musket they use actually can fire some puff of smoke siah.lol

I build WWII tank models as realistic as possible, then sell online...a good Tiger II can fetch anyway from S$400-550...
Jagpanthers and elefants command a lower price.... -
WW2 history is fascinating so it's highly unlikely that you're the only one.

It was theoreticaly not that bad. 4 people carrying a guy on a stretcher. On being a WW2 fanatic, I think it is not an uncommon interest especially if you are talking about the Waffen-SS and related memorabilia.

thanks for response. i crazy over WW2 about couple of years back.
guess it started after saving private ryan, band of bros, wind talkers, pianist, and many others war movies happening in europe, pacific.
guess im weird because i not interested in modern military gadgets. such simply WW2. the reason i guess because of the amount of casualty, the tank to tank battle, ship against ship, plane against plane.
been reading lotsa books on WW2. some less unknown war but briefly shown in series like Bob.
1. battle of bulge.
2. Ops, market garden.

I've been a well balance history freak. Started reading about d-day n all when i was in pri 2 and got so interested. Which led me to take history as one of my humanities subject in my sec sch days. Of course, im also a fanatic chinese historian
I love to read books on ww2 accounts esp those of japanese soldiers. Provides you an insight of the war from japanese point of view. What makes them so fanatical and all. -

There is one more which is just released, it's about the Malmedy Massacre. Heard about it? It's about this few soldiers who escaped the point blank range mowing down of a company of soldiers (mostly noncombatant), following that on how they survive. WW2 is interesting because there is a lot of human element there, and soldiers often saw their own pursuers and were much more in the thick of action as opposed to today..

WW2 is always THE WAR for me, because of the sheer global scope of the war and the lineup of combatants - from Europe to North Africa to Asia. The only true global war. WW1 was by and large too slow-paced - trench warfare/stalemate on the Western Front, and negligible Asia/Pacific action to speak of.
WW2 is also the last "interesting" war in that there were several "great powers" contending for supremacy, and also because there are so many alternate outcomes that might've been. What if the Germans didn't invade Russia, or declare war on the USA, what if the Japanese had not attacked the US etc etc.
After WW2, it became a "boring" bipolar world, with just the USA and the Soviet Union. Honestly, modern wars are soooo boring. Whereas WW2 had breathtaking campaigns with so much color/feel and dozens of divisions stretching for months - I find the Russo-German war absolutely fascinating - nowadays you get little inconclusive skirmishes or the US military simply flattening its opponent in an overwhelming concentration of steel and fire. i develop my interested in WW2 when i was in sec sch during which i did a project on the jap occupation in singapore.
i like chinese history as well. particular Qing dynasty. been reading and watching lotsa china made dramas on all Qing emperor. after reading and watching many such close to reality dramas (china type, not HK nor taiwan drams which sucks). i am amaze that till these days, different history books by different author have a different take. eg. most historian simply put the blame of Qing downfall on empress dowager while some simply state that when the baton was pass down from his husband, emperor xianfeng, qing dynasty was already in a very bad corrupt state and only a matter of time before it collapse.
maybe we should start a thread on Qing history and judgement. haha would be interesting. that is another thing my wife also say im weird.qing fanatic as well. -

yes i watch that too. got the DVD from jb. I read from some books as well but it seem the massarce could be an accident. but i think it is inevidently that these soldiers will die sooner or later due because the german are take prisoner of war with them in a battle they are quite low on resources. if i remember correctlythis should happen at the ardennes forest right? during the siege of bastogne or battle at ardennes. -
discover channel show documentary on the less famous battle " battle of the bulge".
i watch this documentary few days ago on discovery channel. but there seem to be different from some history books about the event.
it mention, the american soldiers at the town of bastogne (where famous BOB 101st airborn division was station) was not relieve by the forces of flamboyant General Patton 3rd army. it had already manage to hold off germans attached from all direction by its own. but according to some history books, these american soldiers was save and relieve by the patton 3rd army when they break through the german lines and relieve the surronded american soldiers in the town of bastogne.
point 2. general patton was leading 4th army. but i tot he is leading 3rd army isnt it.
what i respectr this general so much is that he lead his men by the example. often appearing at the front lines with the men he lead. he neber ask the men to do things he wouldnt do. after the battle of normandy he lead american forces dashing across 600 miles covering france, belgium, luxemburg, germany, austria, czech and liberate the buchenwald liberation camp. unfortunately, he died in a car accident in 1945 and was buried together with the soldiers who died in the battle of the bulge.
to be frank, i never respected any officer during my time in NS. and kena confine few times for not saluting officer. but arent respect be earn rather than given.
another example of a good officer would be major winters inthe show Band of brothers. the way he care for the lives of the men from easy company. trying his best to lead by example, minimizing the lost. anyone can remeber how he fake a operation across the river during the final days of the war so that the men under his command would live beyond this war.(its a matter of time when the german will surrender). -

I thought saving pte ryan was better...realistic and heart-wrenching. i wept toward the end. especially in the church, when they recap, how many of the orginal members of the easy company since D-day still remain alive.
