Protects the M2 from further damaged from a RPG.
Corrections, this is not reactive armor. These types of blocks do not contain any explosives, they contain some type of ceramic mesh that when the jet begins to burn through, the tiny ceramic particals are somehow forceably "shot back" at the jet thus cancelling it out....and make in Isreal. -
looks like a fortress but with so much additional weight...hmmmm

if it works, its worth the weight. But with new missiles having tandem warheads... heh.. might not be so effective. A new lighter concept was used tho. They built cages around the armor, to trigger the warhead's fuse at a distance where it dealt less damage. Now thats smart.

How about having a electiricfied "cage" on the tank's armour which will fry the missile's circuitry and cause it to blow prematurely before any penetration?

They better have those cages on the stryker... it really doesnt have much armor.

These fences are called "slate armor." The idea of them is when a conical-shaped RPG round (which is favored by insurgents most for its multi-purpose abilities), the cone part gets jammed in the slots of the armor, whcih stops the round from scoring a direct hit on the hull. If it hits the slate just right, it doesn't explode on contact, but when the rocket fuse wears down after about 4.95 seconds, it explodes, which the Stryker's regular armor can very easily handle since it's not a direct hit on the hull. If it hits one of the bars separating each slate hole, the slate bars will still be able to handle the explosion by itself, but nonetheless leaving a decent sized hole in the armor with no effect of the Stryker cabin. -
Best is to use laser beams to shoot down any incoming projectile. Must have 360 degrees coverage then enough. if not enough power, just carry more generator...

Just wondering...if a missile/RPG strikes on a particular spot/plate of the Reactive Armour on the tank,this piece will actually remain there,but get blackened?Or will the piece disappear after sustaining the impact of the strike?

A patch of the reactive armor will be gone. Leaveing a bare vulnerable spot where a follow on shot can penetrate.
ERA expends itself by exploding towards the incoming warhead or explosion, negating the warhead's explosive energy, reducing the chances of penetration. It is least useful against APFSDS rounds, aka Sabot rounds.
Why is ERA still useful since another type of ammunition can defeat it?
1. HE rounds or shaped charged warheads retains their penetrating ability despite traveling long distances. Eg, AT-Missiles, or LAW/RPGs.
2. Light anti armor weapons are predominantly HEAT Shaped Charged warheads.
How to defeat ERA.
.Use of tandem warheads
.Use of Smart Top Attack Munitions
.Double targetting one. First shot blasts away ERA, 2nd Shot, kills... hopefully.
.Use of Sabot rounds. -
