  During BMT, there is one guy in my platoon whom we call GI Ravi.

  mebbe shud refer to GIs as Global Infantry.Since wherever got conflict,sure to have men with boots and guns on the ground,doing the fighting,killing and dying.A salute to all Infantry men

  GI - general issue.
  why?
  this term was first use in WW2. firstly it was use to descibe the clothing issue to soldiers during WW2. but later the soldiers use to describe the new soldiers .
  i am confirm it is true because i read it somewhere in the WW2 books.
