Is it a new version of Frgiate with smaller main radar on port side and a different antenna?Appeared in MINDEF site in Nov 2005

Will the 5 th and 6 th frigates like this??So interesting!!If so,I love ST Marines

I have no clue as to whether hulls 5 and 6 will be improved versions of the Formidable class but it is disappointing to learn that these advanced ships are still armed with Harpoon ASMs, and the original 90km version at that. I still remember a few years back there were rumours of the RSN looking for a new generation ASM but apparently nothing has become of it.
Or am I wrong? Were additional purchases of Harpoon Block 2 (RGM-84L) bought to equip these ships or at the very least were our existing inventory of Harpoons upgraded to this standard?
If the answer is yes then the RSN will have a powerful 240km range anti-ship weapon at its disposal. -

the MM40 bkIII has a range of 180 km

It could be the more advanced type that suppose to provide AA cover for the fleet. It make sense that the fleet would have a Aster 30 high altitude AA defence, intregated with the Medium - Low Altitude AA defence by the Aster 15. Ermmm... why would we need a 240km ASM? Sorry... a bit curious.
I'm not sure if we actually bought the Harpoon block2s. I kinda thot I read in straits times a long long time ago that we did...? They were kinda bragging about its ability to be used as a "poor-man's cruise missile." -

Actually the main pushing factor for procuring a longer range ASM would be due to Malaysia's procurement of Otomat Mk II missiles fitted on its 4 Laksamana FSGs from 1998 onwards. These missiles have similar performance to the Harpoon but have a range of 150km, thus demonstrating a significant range advantage over the Harpoon.
Given Singapore's lack of transparency in defence, it would not be surpising if we had already acquired the Harpoon Block 2 missiles but perhaps unveil them to the public only years later.
