if they wanted to mobilize , it would be about in about 20,000 - 50,000 menOriginally posted by Laplace:Ex Malindo Barsasa 3AB was a series of joint miltary exercises between Indonesia and Malaysian armed forces that started a week before Nday 1991 and cumulated in the form of an commando/Kopassus airborne drop in Johor not less 20 km from our border. Total strength involved hovered around 3000 men.
The official TNI newspaper stated that the scenario of the exercise was that an"aggressor" had invaded Malaysia and hence both countries are forced to carried out punitive measures to defend Malaysia and drive the "aggressors" out. The codename pf last phase of the exercise was translated from Behasa Melayu as "Beat to Death"
SM Goh ordered the first ever open mobilization of the SAF and the rest as they say was history. I remember both uncles being called up at the same time for active deployment. I think the arty one reported back to Khatib while the infantry one was deployed to Marsiling.
these new equipment i don't think it's the NSF handling it.Originally posted by tankee1981:I am personally confident of our country's ability to deter an attack or counterattack after absorbing the first wave. What is being reveal to the public is just part of the contingency plans Mindef have during war time.
For example many people have complained in this forum that some of the weapons and equipment which we are actually using during our NSF times (not those fanciful stuff you seen on tv or the papers) are substandard and express concern should war comes. What we use during actual war and what we are using during NSF times is not the same. We have newer and better stuff waiting for us!![]()
we can never have a first wave happen on our ground itself , when it happens , our ability to defend is critically underminedOriginally posted by tankee1981:I am personally confident of our country's ability to deter an attack or counterattack after absorbing the first wave. I still hold to the belief that ultimately one day both nations might have to fight alongside each other.Originally posted by cleong:RSAF has aircraft on Alert 5 (or equivalent) status. Last year there was a light aircraft on a round the world trip that approached Singapore airspace with radios out of commission. Pair of Skyhawks was scrambled to intercept for fears of the aircraft being hijacked.
Secondly, as far as aircraft are concerned Singapore and Malaysia airspace is so close that aircraft is "handed over" from one civilian airport radar control to another, and origin of aircraft is closely tracked. In order to air drop sufficient numbers of paratroopers into the island I believe there would be a certain list of parameters that radar operators are trained to look out for (guessing, because I am not Air Force).
For example, formation of aircraft, not necessarily from the same airport, but all converging onto a similar location (ie Singapore).
I fervently hope that I won't have to live to see the day that there is armed confrontation between Singapore and Malaysia, have family on both sides of the Causeway, but I believe that preparedness is what keeps the peace here. Kuwait got too comfortable with Iraq, which was why the larger country was tempted to invade.
I sure hope I don't have to live to see Singapore in conflict with anybody.Originally posted by cleong:I fervently hope that I won't have to live to see the day that there is armed confrontation between Singapore and Malaysia, have family on both sides of the Causeway, but I believe that preparedness is what keeps the peace here.
