Anybody thinking or planning to go there?
Heard it's tough enough to bite a motherfucker's ass and make it bleed. And very active deployments ensures you lots of chance to see action, and to meet your maker too. -

I did some lightning reserach a while ago and (If my memory is correct...and it has an increasing tendency to fail me nowadays...) came up with:
You cannot join an enemy army
You cannot take up arms against a country that Singapore is not at war with
Both acts are considered treason.
Yes, the 2nd one will usually mean that you cannot join a foreign army, but that is different from a blanket ban prohibiting citizens from joining a foreign army. -
Anione correct me if im wrong......wheather or not singaporeans can join the FFL is not up to the sg govt it is the french cause ultamitly u will get french citizenship and even if u haben do ur NS......i think even u come back singapore theycan't charge u for not doing NS.....

hmmm ... did a quick search of my own too .... yes, i think you're right lwflee ... though i think there probably is a little law hidden somewhere in the civil code that says you can't join a foreign military, singapore doesn't allow dual citizenship (read: allegience) ... and by joining a foreign military you're by implication pledging your allegience, no ? ...Originally posted by lwflee:I meant the statute...

Yes, the FFL might not care whether or not Sg govt allow, and ultimately you can just ignore the sg govt. But the issue of whether or not you are allowed to join is not irrelevent for a number of obvious reasons (eg Coming back to visit relatives, Parent's funeral?, etc.)
And ya, i Fatum, there is possibly some kind of law against joining but then there is a possibly there isn't.
Anyway, this topic has been done before. Do a search on a thread along the lines of "Joining the French Foreign Legion", started by yours truly. -
Actually number 2 is rather rather vague.
Anyway when you join, you get to "change" ur citizenship.
But no, you are not given French citizenship until you've completed 20 years of service. -

why join the Legion ??
If u notice their history ... usually they get a bashing .. i dont think the FFL is the best to join. always hear about their bravery but in the end lose..
unless u want to get french citizenship or escape from some sort of crime -
haha man who in the world still wants to join the French foreign legion ? Do your homework ! All I know is that if u win the battle....u win in the glory of France....if u lose....they will say....they just a bunch of foreigners...

The interesting part about the FFL is that they will never retreat, fight til the last man. Why? Cos they are expendable.
