Well, no one said Officer is all glam and no shit. Our friend here seem to be suffering from some form of jealousy with regards to the prestige accorded to the officer corp. A case of sour grapes maybe.
True, not every officer can make good in the corporate world. Officers are also human and are NOT infallible. Just because society deemed them as "superior" does not mean that they actually are. There's also a misconception that the officer's work is all smooth and easy unlike the sai kang the enlistees do. I'd like to point out that rank has privileges for the responsibilities they hold, although most chose to abuse them without accepting the responsibilities.
Once again, someone chooses to generalise the entire group based on their experiences with a few black sheeps.
Besides, this thread is only discussing on the sword so dun drag your sour grapes theology here. -

i saw some officers really care for soldiers. they recommend them best xx, yy,zz...for the units...off days,...
they also join and play with the men during parties, functions, go karaoke,...basically bor kuan one. impressive! -

Well, just because of a few fellas who spoil the good name of the officer corp does not mean that the rest are the same. There are officers who go way out to help the men and have anyone ever mentioned/remembered them? And besides, during reservist and being in the office are two different things. If you sae that an enlisted man or spec. may be of higher position in the office though of lower rank during reservist, and can tekkan the officer, how bout i put this to you, the officer can charge the enlisted man or spec. and he lan lan gotta serve DB?how bout that?

In the early 80's only the top 10% of each OCS cohort received free swords.
Every officer was entitled to purchase a sword - as I recall the price was around $200, I had some friends who bought them but most officers then did not.
