We are buying the best we can afford considering our heavy budget these few years.Originally posted by zenden9:So u assume u WITNESS u saw our Sjoormen class go into yard annually once? I already say, a outsider know nuts!!!
BTW,U214 is definitely a better sub and pricing will cost more than scopene..

South Korea selected the German company's Type 214 submarine over the French Scorpene submarine because the Germans offered a better price and parts supply.http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/europe/type-214.htm
Russian Kilo SSKs and Typhoon SSBNs are known to carry naval SA-18 Grouse SAMs.Originally posted by SpecOps87:Does any subs in this day and age have any counter-measures or weapons for air-borne threats?Like the S3 Viking anti-sub aircraft etc.? in WWII the Nazi U-boats often feature a gun on its deck specifically for anti-aircraft use.
Ok loh! Ask RSN to buy U214 sub(Brand new),I'm not insisted on buying scopene but strongly against buying those 2nd hand swedish sub.No way I'm trusting those 2nd hand swedish sub with our past experience of using Sjoormen even the price offer is super reasonable. U know what I'm trying to convey...Maintenance fee alone will write off any cheap bargain u think u get from those 2nd hand sub...Any military deal always looks gd on paper with simple calculation but in reality is different!Originally posted by gary1910:http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/europe/type-214.htm
In fact, so far most contract, the Scorpene is generally more expensive than the U214!!!!
India recently ordered 6 non AIP Scorpene SSKs which to be built in India cost them USD1.8bn, USD300mil for non AIP SSK.
So how much is a AIP SSK Scorpene???

Therefore, unless a brand new AIP SSK has a lifespan of 6 times that of the Vastergotland, no way the Vastergotland AIP SSK USD64mils are not worth it!!!!
As I said all subs whether brand new or old , are maintenance intensive.Originally posted by zenden9:Ok loh! U can use it against ASW helos as they mostly used dipping sonar...Originally posted by Shotgun:U can use a sonar solution on an airborne target??? I never knew that.... Besides I'd figure that most subs would avoid aircraft if practically possible. Those sub hunter aircraft tend to have pretty good surface scanning radars to detect periscope feathers n such.
