Hey, I was also sad when the sleek and sexy Typhoon was dropped.
That sad, just accept Mindef's decision and have faith that they've made the right decision.

Actually was only pointing out that Hotel Singapura is found all over the world so fudgester's "welcome" is not entirely appropriate. For all we know he might be welcoming our planes to South Africa instead.

In today's Zaobao, there is this article where the Typhoon's sale is Saudi Arabia is getting unnecessary trouble. Maybe the F-15T is indeed a better choice for us.

well .... it all depends on the design philosophy i guess ..... some 9g fighters like the viper have a side stick because it's supposed to help pilots cope with G-forces better
however, the israelis don't like this because they claim that having a centre stick will add another redundancy to the whole system cos the pilot supposedly can still fly home on his other hand if his main throttle hand is injured .... hence the Lavi still have a centre stick -

i always thought the Rafale would be out first.
when they announced typhoon was out... that was kinda surprising to me.
after typhoon is out... i kinda sure that RSAF gonna choose F15.

The age of the air craft in its existence since 1970 does not matter actually. -
I am wondering what will eventually replace the F-16C/D and the F-5S after the A-4SU are being replaced by the F-15T. The most possible candidate should be the F-35 but it seems that it won't be ready in the next 10 years. Can our relatively newly upgraded F-5S last that long?

not quite .... an F-16 with conformal fuel tanks, twin 600s and a centreline 380 tank supposedly have about the same reach as a strike eagle ..... that's why the israeli's got the F-16 sufa instead of more Ra'ams ...... plus you get twice the number of planes cos it's half as expensive ....Originally posted by sgFish:ahahaha..true. well its just my fantasy...

Dropping the Typhoon was a logical choice. The decision was not based on capabilities etc.
It was based on the fact that it was a joint project by 3+ European countries. Hence the service support would be like:
Engine problem: " please check with UK".....
Undercarriage malfunction: "Please check with Germany".....
Cockpit avoinics failure: "er...wait is that my responsibility? " ....country X -
if the 3 neighbours ever goes to war , Eurofighter can scrape already.
