What is on Pedra Branca?

It is a small island controlled by Singapore but claimed by Malaysia. What is the significance of having this tiny rock in the South China Sea and what could be on it? Comments please

If I'm not wrong, the state that owns it will have additional territory of a 25 km radius from Pedra Branca.

Well, it's in the middle of a pretty busy shipping lane, I suppose. Otherwise, it's a pretty small piece of rock with a single lighthouse on it.
Not to mention we have our Gundam and Macross fighters in the secret base beneath it.

my 'feeling' is it has something to do with the Changi naval base and airbase.
having pedra branca there would mean singapore would have a larger amount of airspace.
this negates the need for SAF to request clearance everytime air force planes take off for changi airbase.
if you notice, commercial planes taking off from changi airport proceed on a straight path towards malaysia.
whereas SAF aircrafts would make a very sharp turn to avoid intruding "neighbouring country" airspace.
since pedra branca is like in the middle of "singapore straits", it gives singapore its airspace required.
anyway.. this is what i think lah... otherwise... for no reason a place 50? km east of us is singapore territoty. -
so who won that land in the icj?

one more reason:Sg hope one day oil or gas etc may be found within economic territorty of this tiny rock.Then Sg no need to pay income tax and every baby will get $10,000 into edusave a/c!!

it seats right on the shipping lane connecting the spore straits to the south china sea.
If we control Pedra Branca, it means that we will have rights over the ships that passes through those lanes.
Also it has a radar installation. controlling Pedra Branca is like having a early morning station for any threats coming from the south china sea. -

i know it is some singapore minister saying that Singapore win because all along they have solid and valid reasons as opposed by weak arguments by malaysia..

Since the sea traffic in the Pedra Branca very very heavy, esp few years ago a bobo Navy gal ramped her small dingy into a tanker. I think gov should really apply some successful road traffic regulation to EASE the sea traffic around that region lah.
Perhaps, Singapore should start to build a giant ERP gate near the Pedra Branca, and start to charge a toll fee for every ships that sailed pass. Maybe can get more $$ from charging the ship sailing out of PTP, and give rebates to the ships sailed from PSA. Good right? Why Gov never think of it lah? Then our stealth figrate can have more job to do liao, can catch the ships that try to siam the ERP gate!! or even exceeding ship speed! Then our gov coffer will go up liao. Moreover, got stealth frigate sure got no pirates wan, very very safe...hehehe

i read it on a NUS student's essay...
it's about all the issues singapore had..... he/she mentioned about the land reclamation, water and of course pedra branca.
i kind of mixed up the facts...
this is what happened.... the ministry of foreign affairs (writer did not mention who).
Says that he/she is confident singapore WILL win because they got evidence and arguments.
he elaborated the fact it was administered by singapore (then nearest harbour), only to have sovereignty claimed by malaysia in 1974....
sorry for the confusion guys.
