Besides, the time u take to fire ONE 75mm round, is enuff for most AFVs to fire a whole volley of their 20mm. Besides, do u think the AMX-13 can acquire faster than modern IFVs? Lets not compare with neighbouring vehicles for now. Which do you think will survive? Between a Bionix and an AMX-13 firing on the move over rugged terrain. Chances are, the 75mm will miss, while the BX will plough enuff 25mm slugs thru ur engine block.
If the armor protection of the vehicle is not able to ensure the survivability of its crew, then u can also throw those "Human operator factors" out the window.
Agree...
A human hand-loaded 75mm gun that has to stop to fire versus 25mm stabilised chain gun that can fire on the move. Not much of a contest I would think.
I really, really wouldn't bet on "Human operator factors".
Some people used to talk about how the AMX-13 speed and agility is better than heavy armour etc... Well, the Humvee is very fast, but people are getting killed in those things cos nothing is fast or agile enough to outrun a chain gun or even an RPG round. So let's have some real armour protection.
Even with modern ammo, there is really, really nothing more you can do with the AMX-13 that doesn't beg the question: WHY NOT BUY NEW TANKS?
But until then, we operate the world's biggest fleet of 50-year old tanks. Whoopee
