or maybe another detachment under Air combat command in the US ? ... more than likely .... training space is probably part of the deal they struckOriginally posted by SMAPLionHeart:for a number of F-16 A/B in return?
I have a hunch that our F-15T will be training there , any opinions?
It is out of reach from Malaysia , since the bases are in Northern Thailand ,Originally posted by Fatum:or maybe another detachment under Air combat command in the US ? ... more than likely .... training space is probably part of the deal they struck
its KC-135, not ECOriginally posted by SMAPLionHeart:It is out of reach from Malaysia , since the bases are in Northern Thailand ,
we got strategic depth , should we deploy 2 EC-135 tankers there , we will be able to penetrate most areas southwards from Thailand.
With our army detachment at Brunei , we are also able to envelope western parts of it.
With our own base at SG , we can attack from 3 sides![]()

Well , Thailand can always state neutrality and feign ignorance , by saying it has no control over the aircrafts etc.Originally posted by tvdog:I don't think Thailand will allow RSAF aircrafts to take off from these bases to attack another country unless that country is also at war with Thailand.
But they will be very useful if for some reasons our planes attacking another country needs to land in Thailand instead of flying back to Singapore.
Dream on SMAP ... allowing combat operations to be staged from or even overfly Thai airspace is tantamount to an act of agression.Originally posted by SMAPLionHeart:Well , Thailand can always state neutrality and feign ignorance , by saying it has no control over the aircrafts etc.
If The country below it chooses to engage Thailand's own aircraft , then it will
drag thailand into the battle.
If not , why are we getting a base so strategically located to us , instead of Taiwan or Japan?
The F-15T is to replace a Sqn of A-4 replacedOriginally posted by insouciant:Think the likelyhood of that ever happening is lowww....
And the F15Ts will mostly likely be based in the US till we buy the second batch...
IINM most recent use of such have been with the agreement of the parties involved ... which would, in the case of ODS & OIF, have dragged them into the coalition of the willing.Originally posted by fedor86:But I thought the US does that all the time (or at least they plan to do so). Making use of other country's bases in case of war.
Sometimes the countries dun want to get themselves involved eitherOriginally posted by kotay:IINM most recent use of such have been with the agreement of the parties involved ... which would, in the case of ODS & OIF, have dragged them into the coalition of the willing.
I can't think of any incident where a country's sovereignity has been violated for such purpose but I can give you an example where the laws were respected.
Re: Bombing of Libya by US in 1986
Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher signed off on the use of British bases in the operation, but Spain and France refused to grant American warplanes (F-111) overflight permission; this meant the planes would have to fly 2,800 miles to reach their targets, and be refueled five times in the air.
when was that? sounds familiar.Originally posted by SMAPLionHeart:for a number of F-16 A/B in return?

Yes, but wanna bet that the F15s will be 1st based in the US for a year or two for training?Originally posted by sbst275:The F-15T is to replace a Sqn of A-4 replaced
yeah right.. wonder how much the ISS would cost. we should brought the whole damn thing instead of operating an aircraft carrier group.Originally posted by Shotgun:Actually we intend to launch our Strike eagles from space. Then just have to do a zero-g pushover and go supersonic all the way to the destination.
Friday, September 23, 2005 - The Royal Thai Air Force hopes to buy sixteen F-16 jets which the USAF has been using in Afghanistan, under a barter trade agreement, incoming air force chief ACM Chalit Pukpasook said yesterday.Got stupid problems copying n pasting on this forum lately.. ARgh.
He said the sale of the F-16 C/Ds would be at a friendly price of 20 billion baht. Thailand would offer premium agricultural produce in return. ''The planes have not been used much and still have many flying hours left,'' he said.
The air force needed the fighters to replace its 30 year-old F-5 A/B jets.
Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra had discussed the deal with US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, he said.
Singapore recently donated its F-16A/B fleet to Thailand at the start of 2005. Those F-16s are used by the RTAF to supplement the assets already in service with its Air Force.
Thailand has received 36 new and 16 refurbished F-16A/Bs in four previous buys delivered between 1988 and 2003. With the latest Peace Naresuan IV order, the Thai AF also ordered two F-16s for spare parts reclamation.
Thailand's has been operating F-16 for over 17 years now.
