Well , in times of conflict , if you need spare parts , you think France will airlift those Rafale spart parts if it gets damaged?

Do note that only SG and France is using it.
American spare parts for the planes , some parts are quite similar , as for Rafale spare parts , it is much different.
As for the missiles which only works on Rafale but not F-16 , it's going to a big problem .If they buy rafale , during future air detachments , you have to bring your weapons , spare parts along to other pple's air force base to train.
USA also has a wider area to train on. -

AGM-65B/D/G Maverick ASMs, Paveway II LGBs, Mk 20 Rockeye CBU,
Mk 82/83/84 GP Bombs and AIM-9J/P/S Sidewinder AAM are already cleared for use on the Rafale.
Also, French weapons such as the Durandal Anti-Runway Bomb are cleared for use on the F-16C/D.
The issue for spares should not be a problem, given that the RSAF already operates aircraft from France such as the AS332M and AS550A. Even if we get the F-15T, the spare parts are completely different from that of the F-16C/D, no? Engines excepted... -

Personally,I'd hope for the Rafale.It has much better potential than the F-15T given its relative youth and less restrictions on technology they are willing to transfer to us.It would also diversify the source of out fighters and make us less vulnerable to political/diplomatic pressure from the US.

nope, my idea of a silver bullet would be a combination of systems, ECMs, wild weasel equipment and other stuff, (recall the humps on our viper Ds ? .. ) and more weaponary hardware of course, i won't be surprised that if shit happens a lot of hardware that we've never seen before appears, i'm thinking python IVs and yes, the derby perhaps, but also a lot more guided munitions, maybe the harpoons for the fokkers would "transform" into SLAMs for the fast jets ... more standoff weapons like popeyes maybe .... I think so too... read in the web that our F16C/Ds and US F15 lost to India's SU-30 during a training in India. Although the official results to that exercise in India is not releasesd but do anyone have any information on this? Hopefully personnel who are involved in the exercise itself can tell us more about what happened. Did our F-16 did that badly against the Su-30s? I know the Indian pilots are good but for RSAF not to score a single hit and suffered total loss is a bit unbelievable.

To have a much more accurate figure, go check out the Red Flag results of 2004.RSAF pilots came up tops in the accuracy charts for most shots-to-kill ratio.And these were against NATO planes. -

the indians like to scratch their own balls the way we like to scratch ours, both sides are just as "hao lian", just read some of their online forums and newspapers and you'll know what i mean, everyone else is second rate to them, Pakistan, the US, and everyone else included, at the exercise involving the US, not all US units were frontline units, air national guards were included (second rate aircraft, part time pilots), i belive the theory going around that the US purposely did so to gain more support for the F 22 raptor, with a lot of planned plane purchases being slashed at that time, and remember, the US didn't send any strike eagles nor any MSIP improved C eagles with improved radars there, so BVR with flankers was suicide, as expected, not did they have any helmut mounted cueing systems then, nor off bore-sight missiles, so basic fighter manouvers would be won by the indians, as expected.Originally posted by tankee1981:Although the official results to that exercise in India is not releasesd but do anyone have any information on this? the same thing is played out whenever the US navy play with the israelis too, same problem, close in dogfights, the US didn't have any off boresight missiles then. BUT they do now, the AIM-9X off boresight missile is coming into service, together with a helmut mounted stare and shoot system based on the Elbit model, would the score be the same today, had the americans sent their best ? ... i don't think so ...
we probably faced the same constraints too i believe, is our score really that bad ? ... i don't think so ... even if it was ... we probably didn't flash our latest stuff .... and i think it's good policy to keep some capabilities to ourselves, allies or otherwise ... -
Latest issue of 'Combat Aircraft' magazine contains an article about F-15 performance during joint-exercise with Indian aircrafts. Plse check newstand for availability.

Just question. I understand that Jammers are a strict no-no when it comes to exercise or just war games. Now, if these jammers are not allowed to be used, for safety reason, then how can the war games accurately reflect the capabilities of the aircraft that carry the jammers?

I think in the USAF vs IAF air combat exercise, the both parties involved did not really use the BVR combat. Instead, USAF and IAF are training on close-in dog fight. In a realistic air combat situation, I believe the USAF F15s would have top hand in BVR combat given its advanced ECCM, ECM and missile seeker technologies. The IAF Sukkoi fighters would edge out the F15 in the close-in dog fights.
The F15s coupled with the AMRAAM or Python 4 would be the deadliest combi in BVR arena today. furthermore, USAF had also been planning for a major upgrade on their existing F15E with 2D thrust vectoring engines just like the F22 (by that time should have 3D thrust vectoring liao).
If we look at the Rafale fighter, the Taiwanese had just complaint on the high maintenance cost of the Mirage 2000-5 in their air force. The cost for running 1 mirage fighter can be as high as 500% more than the typical upkeeping cost of F16. Despite F15 is not cheap, also required a lot of maintenance for their engines and radar, we can always draw the spares from the USAF inventories READILY at maybe a very reasonable price...
Only when the maintenance cost could be control, then we could afford to allow our pilot to clock for more flying hours in the sky in this era of high fuel price. -
