Hello all, saw in some SF videos and pics that the US SF have a insertion method where by the helo comes swooping down with a rope with attachments on it and the troopers clip carabiners along the entire length before the helo gains altitude and fly off to safety. Whats this extraction method called?is it practiced by the SAF?
Please share any extraction methods you have seen or head of before.
Popularised by SOG in the vietnam war..its called McGuire rig extraction
Thanks LRRP!Always thought that that extraction method was cool. Does the SAF practice this? Or do they have other form of extraction methods...please share
SAF uses the STABO rig, which is a development of the original McGuire rig. The diffrence is esentially that the McGuire rig requires you to hold yourself within the harness, while the STABO harness leaves your hands free.
During the 1992 NDP, a couple of the guys from my company were part of the flypast, suspended in a STABO rig under a Super Puma.
Personally, although I agree it looks cool, I think it's a very risky extraction method, especially if the extraction's taking place in a jungle.
Yep, I agree that its not really safe for use in jungle/forested terrain. Are there any faster ways of extraction besides the McGuire rig system?
