I know this might sound like a crazy idea, but this there really such an insertion for VBSS Navy seals whereby they parachute/freefall into the ship and start their assualt in this manner?

If they land in water and swim to the ship, I'll still believe. In other cases, I'll watch Charlie's Angels.

I figured they'd land in water, and make their infiltration from the water?? Landing directly on the ship sounds too risky... lots of stuff to get caught on.

Why do you want to insert into a ship. You can't achieve any element of surprise at all !

Why do you want to land directly onto a ship ? There is no element of surprise at all. Unless you are talking about counter terrorism. Maybe.

Why drop high-profile from the sky when you can go in via a lower profile method such as submarine insertion?
Just makes no sense since element of surprise is everything that makes or breaks spec ops. -
The answer: For the big screen.
Hell, I think it'll look cool on tv... elite special forces doing a HALO jump. Sights the ship.. (don't know how they do that...) and opens the chute and "stealthily" eliminates all the enemy opposition on the ship.

Counter terrorism freefall and lands on a ship and kill the terrorists.
This has been done before in real life. If im not wrong it was in the 1970s in the mediterranean when an Italian Cruiseliner was seajacked.
You are right about the element of surprise, cause the commando did the assault on bright daylight and it sort of went wrong. Some commandos landed on the water instead and had to be saved by the passengers on the deck, due to strong winds.
But, however, not a lot of people were killed because in this situation the terrorists prefered to hide in the labyrinth ship hotel rooms and not react to the commandos on the deck. -

sounds like a stupid idea. what if they shoot you while you are landing? the better way is to just fast rope from a chopper. also the winds are quite strong at night in the open sea. if you land in water then jialat.

Well, my choice insertion methods would be the following:
(1) Insertion by helo through fast-roping
(2) Ship-boarding by Zodiac or RHIBs deployed from over the horizon by a naval/coastguard ship
(3) Submarine Insertion
(4) Ship-boarding by Zodiac or RHIBs deployed by aircraft or helo over the horizon.
Guess these are the most stealthy way although choice 1 is a dynamic insertion method and is genereally reccomended that other helos or aircrafts carry out a diversion infront of the ship by doing a mock attack or something and draw attention of the guards/tangos to the front ad allow the rescuers to attack frm behind.
