RSN's latest warship RSS Formidable arrives from France

SINGAPORE: RSS Formidable -- the first of six new stealth frigates -- has arrived all the way from France.
The RSS Formidable is fitted with an intelligent combat system that allows the ship to network with other ships, aircraft and shore facilities.
And it will even have its very own helicopter.
But the ship is currently undergoing further tests and will be fully operational in about two years' time.
While the first frigate is made in France, the rest will be made by ST Marine in Singapore.
The six frigates will replace the Navy's six Missile Gunboats which have been in service for 30 years. - CNA/ir -

now... the question... any serious military nuts out there can tell me if those 2 mounted racks on both side of the aster launchers are MISSILES or CHAFF launchers? -

The launchers are for chaff . IR ECM? etc

I have posted in other threads that Formidable class will appear smaller than
ten % in enemy's radar.It is hinted by The Captain of France

I read fr ST sometimes back that Sg invented a paint which
can reduce the temperature of naval ship by at least few degree.
Any more info on this 'cooling paint'?
3.The EW system is missing
MINDEF off course will not reveal the Electronic Warfare System!
Eg how to create a protection shield against income missiles.
Or better direct the incoming missiles back to enemy platforms!!
It has been and will be a closed guarded secrets.Remember Minister Teo
complained :while he was a Captain of a naval ship,he also could not
enter a locked room full of equipments.What were inside,u tell me!! -

so.. i think the french frigate probably have a RCS of a 12 meter fishing boat.
i suspect the RSN frigate, which encompose more stleath technology... probably some of the VISBY tech that DSTA might have got their hands on.. and probably reduce the RCS of formidable even more.. probably down to a mere 5 to 7 percent of the vessel size..
with a vessel length of 114, that works out to be a size of sampan RCS. -

The shipÂ’s electronic countermeasures/support measures system which performs radar warning and jamming.
Decoys include launchers for chaff and infrared flares and torpedo decoy system .

It is constructed almost entirely of carbon fibre, the same material used to make the chassis of Formula One cars and the hulls of racing yachts.
Its angular design gives it a minimal radar signature, known as a cross-section, and its 57mm cannon can also be retracted to reduce it still further.
John Nilsson, one of the designers, told BBC News Online: "We are able to reduce the radar cross section by 99%. That doesn't mean it's 99% invisible, it means that we have reduced its detection range."
In a nutshell, if the Visby was 100km from an enemy vessel it could see the enemy on its radar but not vice versa. It could get within 30km of the enemy before being spotted.

From sources on Jane's defence weekly, the frigate would be fitted with small caliber gun systems on either side of the hangar. Could this be the Typhoon 25mm self defense system from Israel?

secondly.. the upper half slopping of the formidable mimicks the visby slopping which is all the way to the tip of the bow.. unlike the french ship, their upper slopiing is about 10 meters short of the bow on both sides.
lastly... french frigate radars and lots of other gadgets are exposed all over the top of their ship... while the formidables are either enclosed or shielded or simply not visible.
that's my prelimary opinion. -
i wonder... will the malaysian navy send their warship to check check see see if their radar can detect the formidable.
they probably have all the various ships, ground radars and planes line up along the entire melaka strait, waiting for the arrival of the formidable.
but then... if i am not wrong... the formidable was escorted by at least one of our MCVs during the passage throught the straits... probably to mask the formidable's radar signature by sailing side by side..
once they the formidable is in dock... i think they will add some "radar reflective" attachments to fool our potential enemy into thinking that our stealth ship... isnt really so stealth.
its useful in times of peace to mislead.... in times of war... then they will be surprised...
if i am the commander of RSN... i would do that... no point flaunting our stealth capabilities.. unless we really really need to give them a fright. -
Really stealth?
According to Clark, one of the most critical capabilities DD(X) will have is a 50-fold radar cross section reduction compared to the current class of destroyer. Clark clearly spelled out what advantage this will bring to the battlespace.
