IMO i think there is a limit that what you can change to a plane/airframe. I still believe the Rafale has more room for modding. =) besides not many people know what techies can do to a rafale since it is not common. So in that sense it can be our silver bullet against other foes.
aluminium frame to composite frame indicate at least 1/3 weight reduction
70's suitcase size to 21 century notepad size avionics mean further weight reduction and more empty space in aircraft for addon stuff
more thrust from the same engine package profile means better thrust to weight ratio or need not so much fuel to cut through the air
new airframe material means even a 747 might has smaller radar signature than a common bird
In economic sense, the more you produce, the less you pay per item. An fully loaded F-15E cost USD28 mil a piece and that is a steal compare to USD40 mil basic Typhoon.
Thus I quite sure 70% chance we will select F-15 T variant and the final figure should be around 20-25 for a squadron.
