Strengths of our defence capability

We need the golden goose,beside the golden egg—technology transfer
1.Other countries are very keen to acquire just the most advanced weapons and equipments .
Sg takes one step further to acquire the knowledge to produce the products----technology transfer.Like our stealth frigate.The first one was made in France.The other five are built in Sg to let us know how to make them and understand the technology better.
Combined with knowledge we already have,the new knowledge may multiple the Capbality.We may need to pay a higher price for the technology transfer.But it is value for money.
Never mind it is old,so long it can work
2.Some of you may laugh we bought the 40 years sub while MY bought the new one.We have upgraded the old sub with new technology.
For every kind of equipments,esp for this kind of platform,the effectivness depend mostly on the performances of the peoples operating .The right persons,trainings ,pays,teams work ,morales etc all contribute to the effectivness of any platforms.The translations of manuals and communications between the trainers and the trainees of MY are one of the major problems.
3.Thanks to Save Money policy adopted many years ago,we can afford to
buy almost any weapons we want.A few millions we had saved in many years ago,might accumulated to a billion now.Take A4 Skyhawks fighters as examples,we bought them second hands and have used them for 30 years from 1970Â’s.

4.Though we do not have stragetic depth to buy time for counter attack,we can concentrate resources to defense.I see it like 5 tigers guarding a football field.Our neighbour,being 400 times bigger than us,like 5 tighers guarding a jungle.
5.Technology help to solve this disadvantage.Like the underground ammo facility deep inside granite,it seems it is located deep inside a desert or mountains area.Or the soon to be built sub-sea caverns for oil or petrochemical in Jurong Island,make the attack very difficult.
Defense chain all under one roof.
6.SAF alone cannot fight.It need scientists(DSTA ,DSO,NUS,NTU etc) to design weapons or evaluate weapons, manufactuer (ST) to make weapons at a reasonable price,logisitic company to supply(Sg Food), ample maintenance support(ST ),RD in NCB protections ( DSTA ,DSO,NUS,NTU,hospitals etc).under one roof make the chains more effective and cutting cost.All of them,we hope, always remember they exist for serving national interest.
7.You can critize that this will not create competition,diversity in thinking etc.But there is drawback of US style military-industrial relationship.All co. there are maximum profit seeking.Will they put national interest or shareholdersÂ’s interests in the first place?Like the Congressmen and Senatores of the state where Colt Industries ,the M16 maker , situated,they write to Bush request US continue using the age old rifle.Sometimes DOD also award tender without open competion.

8.Since the forced Independence,Sg leaders see the real and present danger of this tiny state.Nowadays half of the worldÂ’s oil and 30% of trade sail through Sg. Who can control Sg can control the Asia!!This thinking make us try our best to prepare for the worst.We build bomb Shelters in MRT stations,schools .hospitals and even in every home.CD shelters also can protect us from Chemical Biological attack in a short while.
Without this urgency thinking,we would not achieve so much in 40 years. -

competent tacticians can focus their forces at where it is really needed even though their zone of control is large. -

I don't care what kind of enemy we're fighting... even if the other side is fighting with just spears and arrows, the best idea is to not look down on them.

I was just stating facts, their defence industry, at moment I believe nothing much except licensed produce of rifle , which is something we are doing around 1969!!!!
And it is a also a fact that Indon licensed producing more than MY even transport a/c!!!

Anything above 7.62 mm gun can hit SG from Johor , likewise we could do the same thing to them.
Anyway , any large troop movement of troop in Johor will initiate a upgrade of readiness , i.e. mobilisation.
It is not easy to have a surprise land attack in today technology, so the only way is by a/c or a few arty,that mean war, could they afford to have war with us???

In fact , just in SEA alone, Indonesia have 2 of these, Philippines have one Triga ,Thailand have 2 Triga and Vietnam have 1 Triga Mk2 as well.
So what big fxxk for a small nuclear reactor bought from US???
First thing , it is purely for research and generating of electrical power, it will never able to build any bomb , otherwise US will not export such reactor in the first place, 35 of them in fact!!!

Secondly, even if they are our enemies . . .chest thumping and belittering them will be our downfall.
