Hmm.Originally posted by kopiosatu:can only tahan 7.62mm rounds.
well, don't forget a SP can hold up to 24 men (though weight calculations allows us to hold less)Originally posted by ah_kwang:anyway, i think there should be 20 or 30+ heuys(correct me if i'm wrong). where are we going to find so many chinooks and pumas in the meantime? haven't heard of them buying new choppers to replace the UH1s. don't think they are buying. So how are the helio-rappellers and LSV going to be transported?

When the designer for apaches created the apaches , they did consider the threat from RPGs though and ground fire , Apache is also known as a flying tank![]()

The AH-64D Longbow Apache is equipped with the Northrop Grumman millimetre-wave Longbow radar. The Longbow fire control radar incorporates an integrated radar frequency interferometer for passive location and identification of radar emitting threats. An advantage of millimetre wave is that it performs under poor visibility conditions and is less sensitive to ground clutter. The short wavelength allows a very narrow beamwidth which is resistant to countermeasures.
The Longbow Apache can effect an attack in thirty seconds. The radar dome is unmasked for a single radar scan and then remasked. The processors determine the location, speed and direction of travel of a [b]maximum of 256 targets.

The squadron's commanding officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Lock Kok Leong, 39,fr STimes 14.07.05 14/07/2005 Page: H5
said the RSAF's heavy-lift Chinooks and Super Puma helicopters will take over
the Hueys' duties.
Some Huey pilots will learn to fly these helicopters. Others will train for
four months in the United States to fly the Apache, followed by two months of
operational flights.
Technicians converting to the Apache will receive two months' training in
Singapore, and a few more months of practice on the aircraft.
maybe 2 years is a few months to them.Originally posted by lionnoisy:How come the pilots and technicians takes few months converting to operate in Apache?
nothing special about this particular avionics system really. it is just basic countermeasure or counter-countermeasure.Originally posted by SMAPLionHeart:Put one place whereby no matter how many airstrike you hit, also won't kena.
Apache are basically the biggest threat to tanks , other then our SPIKE and MILANs.
I read before that it allows the user to detect the radars that detect you..
can also specially counter surface to air missiles.
We are not talking about 1 to 1 replacement here .Originally posted by ah_kwang:anyway, i think there should be 20 or 30+ heuys(correct me if i'm wrong). where are we going to find so many chinooks and pumas in the meantime? haven't heard of them buying new choppers to replace the UH1s. don't think they are buying. the UH can carry out underslung missions also? didn't know that. only done it with SPs and chinooks before.Originally posted by ah_kwang:anyway, i think there should be 20 or 30+ heuys(correct me if i'm wrong). where are we going to find so many chinooks and pumas in the meantime? haven't heard of them buying new choppers to replace the UH1s. don't think they are buying. Choppers are coming back to SG laOriginally posted by Delta 5:It is odd as there is no news till now about the possible order of new transport and utility helicopters by the RSAF. As seen in publications such as Air International, the RSN is looking for 6-8 Anti-submarine helicopters and a further batch of machines based on the same airframe as is required by the RSAF to replace the UH-1Hs and the oldest AS332M Super Pumas in the transport role. The total need could surpass 40 units. Now that the winner of the naval helicopter competition has been declared to be the S-70B, it is expected for the RSAF to order the UH-60L Blackhawk. It should be noted that the Chinooks and Super Pumas are heavy and medium-lift helicopters respectively and a lighter machine is no doubt required for possible COIN missions and other missions requiring only a limited response. I do not really feel comfortable with the RSAF's statement of the UH-1Hs being replaced by the Chinooks or Super Pumas as this would only make up the lost capability by overstretching our current fleet of helicopters...
By the way the competition for our new training helicopter to replace the AS550 is down to the Bell 206 and EC120. 12 units are to be acquired.
Comments anyone?
