Eight UH-1Hs fly in formation during their farewell flight around Singapore that took them past Tengah Airbase, Paya Lebar Airbase and the Southern Islands.
The Air Force's UH-1H helicopters landed for the last time at Sembawang Air Base on 11 Jul, after a 30-minute 'end-of-service' flight around the island.
Formed in 1969, the 120 Squadron (120 SQN) is the Republic of Singapore Air ForceÂ’s (RSAF) oldest operational squadron.

Think before you post
2.I am happy to know /read news of SAF.Pl think if the posting will put SAF
in dangerous positions. You put the movements of SAF,eg Army convoy, fleets of navyor routes of RSAF planes here. What if they are not going to ex,but they are going for real actions---to attack or defense!?Your posting here may be faster than spy's reports here.
Nobody know their real operations.I am doubt only few would know until
the last moment in order to protect the operations.
Pl post your findings of any SAF movement here at least 24 hours later.
You may save a lot of lives of SAF,may be your ferns or relatives.Who knows.I may be over cautious. But it pays.

HK's Police and SAR use Blackhawks, I think. They're beautiful, used to see them fly across the harbour all the time.Originally posted by fkh:I think old helos (Hueys and Fennacs) should be given to police if our govt decided to set Police Air Wing..
In my opinions, RSAF should have two groups of attack helos, e.g Bell AH-1Z Viper and McDouglas AH-64D Longbow Apache.

we jus retired our hueys ...so to sae...probably noOriginally posted by sbst275:Is it possible for the UH-1Y to come?
AH-1 is much cheaper , we can have more AH-1 for the price paid for apache , basically its up to choice.Originally posted by tankee1981:Any reasons why we need two types of attack helicopters? Both have similar roles,in fact the Apaches are superior to the AH-1Z Vipers( I thought its King Cobra right?) in the anti-tank role.![]()
When the designer for apaches created the apaches , they did consider the threat from RPGs though and ground fire , Apache is also known as a flying tankOriginally posted by ah_kwang:read in the Asian Defence journal that our Hueys are sold to Phillipines Air Force for around $500,000++, if not wrong. Anyway, I hope that the Merlin can replace UH1H. It's a beautiful aircraft.
Anyway, I think no point having so many attack helios. Maybe 30+ to 40+ would be nice. If you look at the Iraq war, so maybe Apaches have been shot down by RPGs. What's more to say if we're fighting against a modern force with Mistral or worst still Patriot missles? But I must say it's still a good asset to have for a fast, surprising and a 'confirm kill' strike against enemy tanks.

The AH-64D Longbow Apache is equipped with the Northrop Grumman millimetre-wave Longbow radar. The Longbow fire control radar incorporates an integrated radar frequency interferometer for passive location and identification of radar emitting threats. An advantage of millimetre wave is that it performs under poor visibility conditions and is less sensitive to ground clutter. The short wavelength allows a very narrow beamwidth which is resistant to countermeasures.
The Longbow Apache can effect an attack in thirty seconds. The radar dome is unmasked for a single radar scan and then remasked. The processors determine the location, speed and direction of travel of a maximum of 256 targets.

If a helicopter gets hit at the tail rotor, no matter how advanced it will go down anyway. So it doesn't matter what chopper you buy. Ok maybe for twin tandem blades its harder to take them down.Originally posted by Lance_han:smart answer asshole, but wad happens if a bullet or missiles impact the tail rotor..??
because...
1) no one literallycan cfm+chop where a bullet or missile or bomb will land in a fight
2)no matter how much armour u have, u put it at the wrong places or u get hit in the wrong places, u still die
3)the design lab and the real battlefield are two diff places, so even if it works out or have been thought out in the labs might not necessarily mean tat it works on the battlefield..
lastly, +1

i thought Apache's rotor is suppose to be able to tehan small arm fire one.. up to .5 level or more right? or tail rotor is weaker???Originally posted by kopiosatu:If a helicopter gets hit at the tail rotor, no matter how advanced it will go down anyway. well no matter how much they can tahan, can they tahan a rpg?Originally posted by I-like-flings(m):i thought Apache's rotor is suppose to be able to tehan small arm fire one.. up to .5 level or more right? or tail rotor is weaker???
The cockpit can tahan a deflected RPG blast, due to the "bathtub" design.Originally posted by kopiosatu:well no matter how much they can tahan, can they tahan a rpg?
doesn't really matter actually, like i said... tail rotor down, aircraft down down down BOOM
