M16 Steel Magazine???

HI GUys!
We are getting a lot of CHartered Industries Steel M16 maagazine here in the US.. Just bought me 10 of them, it is pakerized with a dark grey plastic follower ! on the floor plate it is stamp Chartered Industries, SIngapore. I will post some photos!
Wonder how good are these mags ! they seem well made and I have since replace all the soft grey follower with the new style green follower on the US GI mags!
I do not recall we ever use steel magazine ! I was always issue with the black color painted aluminium ones when I was in the service.
Any comments on that?? are we using these stufff now??

The guys over at ar15.com seem to think pretty highly of them. They are similar to the steel magazines manufactured by Imperial Defence Industries of England, and I believe they are intended for the SA-80. I have two of the IDI magazines--they're much more durable than the aluminium USGI ones, but I had to file away about 1/32" of metal from the top of the latch engagement hole in order to make them lock into the magwell.
As a bonus, the IDI mags already come with the upgraded "anti-tilt" followers.

Just don't try to load 30 rounds.

Just ame back from Range ... do a few mag dumps of 30 rds! got 1 jam out of the 5 mags I brought... Will not load full 30 next time! Probably 27 rds that I always load it to. Had a double feeding.
YEah! the mag feels very similar to the British mags I have .. but it has a really soft grey colored follower!

I understand that there are some ranges on public lands that restrict shooters to just one round per mag, for liability reasons. That's pretty Draconian, in my opinion.

Looks like everyone is talking about the military range in the SIngapore military.
We have several stages whereby a run down and stationary type targetting is being done. A very challenging course since a run down sequence requires shooter to shoot pop up man size target at 300 meter, than a run down to 200 shooting moving and staionary targets, than a run down to 100 , 50 than 25 and like 10.. a 2nd stage does 100 meter stationary non supported shot with differnt target types.

Was wondering anyone in the SAF use those steeel mags that I am talking!???
My time it was the black aluminium type .... but these have CHartered industries stamp on the floor plate, it is greyish pakerized finishing and dark grey follower.??

we're still using those fugly vietnam war style mags. I think its aluminium, black.
Then again.. probably those guards or commandos might use it for their CAR-15s or smth. -

I guess no one has use those mags I got over in the US! I guess it is for export market!
Seriously I don;t see a need to use Steel mags ! they rust and they are heavier.. they also sent like the aluminium ones ! wonder why the British and the recently HK mags are all steel.!
Maybe steel is cheaper to produce!

My guess would have been that they go out of shape a lot less easily than the aluminium ones. Are the steel mags any more rigid than the aluminium ones?

not really, I drop mine a few times doing 3 gun matches on concrete and it dings as easily as those US GI mags!
I rather go with the true and tried .
