Recent Sudden Deaths in SAF, Pulau Tekong.

I'm sure we've seen some of the reports.
I've read thru quite a few of them... and I'm wondering, why did SAF heli-evac the casualties from pulau tekong to SGH instead of CGH. CGH is nearer right? And SOP in Tekong MC does state CGH right?
Is it true that CGH does not have Heli-evac A&E facilities?
If SAF choppers carrying casualties from tekong could bring them to CGH, precious minutes can be saved. Minutes means a lot in a life and death situation. -

anyways, to answer your question, i believe that is because the medical facilities in CGH aren't as up to date as those in SGH. I'm not too sure but I have a mate whos an ex heli medic( the same who helped with the EH info) so i'll see if he can shed some light -
ok. i've just asked him. he says that CGH doesn't have any facilities for helis to land, which is why heli-evac cases go to SGH

Then I feel SAF should construct such facilities nearby CGH to land helicopters. SAF owes it to the soldiers to give them timely medical assistance, and give their troops every minute possible especially in a life and death scenario.
I remember the case of 2SG Hu, (Combat Survival Course Drowning Case) was evaced to CGH though... no helicopters that round? -

i think that would be highly unfeasible. if that was the practice, at the same time you make the decision to helievac, you'll also have to call the camp in question to make sure their LZ is clear, and that a vehicle will be available to send the casualty to CGH.Originally posted by hmsg:can't they land on any camp parade squares near CGH?

might as well just have the chopper fly straight to SGH - it'd probably still get there faster. -
Why not TTSH? There's a helipad on the roof - with a direct lift to the emergency department at B1.

I think the nearest camp should be Bedok Camp where pple take IPPT. 3SIR (still there?) has a parade square with the H in middle for chopper to land. -
What's so important than saving a life? Even parade also must fark off for the chopper. Vehicle .. outside the medical centre the ambulance cannot? Even at night the BDO must ensure the ambulance is available. -

forgot about bedok camp. so yeah, you're right, bedok camp is nearer but i think it'll still be at least 5 mins though. -
parade can "fark off" yeah, but what if there are 10+ vehicles parked there, as is not-infrequently the case in my camp? can you guarantee that you can find and wake up enough drivers, and get them from the mt line to the parade square and drive off the vehicles within a few minutes notice?Originally posted by Icemoon:What's so important than saving a life? what if there are props there for in-camp exercises? can you find enough people to cart away a simulated en SAM site, complete with con wire and wooden missile launchers?
what if there's a giant tentage set up there for special events? call the contractors to rush down and dismantle?
what i'm saying is, there may be situations where the LZ is obstructed and cannot be easily cleared within the time frame required - "parade fark off and RP can direct the chopper to the ground" is a simplification. -

Yeah .. the only time something more permanent is blocking the parade square is during alert red standby and exercise moving out when vehicles are parked. Anyway the least they could do is consider landing the chopper in that camp. Btw .. there is always 3rd Guards stadium .. don't forget. What can block the stadium field? 
Hmm .. the super puma not stationed in Tekong right? I think they flew in from Sembawang airbase? Anyone knows generally how long from calling chopper to chopper leaving Tekong? kopi might know? -
As of SOP , that tekong MC state CGH, that is for the normal case, anything that need helicopter is special cases that is up to the MO to decide and the helicopter to decide.
First thing there is a lot of consideration, not just on the hospital equipments and specialized available for that type of treatment.
Even you have landing area for heli in changi ! You must consider the flight path, how easy to land .
Yes changi may be near, but it is directly near the airport, which mean if you want to try to land at CGH, you have to wait for control towers to clear you a flight path from the taking off and landing commerical planes. In the end, the faster way may be SGH instead, which does not require hold for flight path clearance, and no disruption to the commerical traffic and the no danger to heli.
As for how fast a heli can get to tekong, there is alway 1 or 2 helicopter on standby for emergency cases. Once activitated, the pilots need quick briefing and crew need to start the heli, like i say the rest is depend on the flight path clearance to how fast they can reach there. -

anyways, for all the arguments, dun u guys think its more straight forward to fly straight to SGH instead of having to transfer to other kind of vehicles? -
