Imagine that if gross income is $3.1k for whole family, you can't buy a 3-rm flat already... Take home is $2480, and you will likely need to top up CPF payment for HDB... You will be squeezed till no money left... how to have babies?
Or... If your gross income is <$3k such that you are eligible for 3-rm HDB, then you will also find it tough to have babies...
They should give a $50k grant for the first 50k babies each year. Immediately birth rate will shoot up. But that will cost $2.5 billion a year...
$50k grant is good but besides this couples at look the costs of living to make decision in giving birth.

those who will take advantage of this will be those who look at only the $$ and not the child... you will have a generation of maladjusted little psychopaths, who are progenies of other maladjusted psychopaths...

To sum up everything, bottomline is they want more and more $$$$$$$$$$$
The root cause of the problem is PAP. This is a fact.
PAP must go.
that is a fact, no one wanted to give birth or most cannot even stand up to give, so the birthrate budget was shifted to immigration budgets.

sure mah, they have already catered the budget for birthrate, one for one saving, you got a baby, open an account, put money in, you put $1000, govt put $1000 until $18,000 and so on. So if all these money budget were not put into use, they have to shift it for more important purpose, be it baby or immigration, the objectives is to increase population.

Personally i think they have to change the cap limits for HDB. Above 8k salary you can't buy a HDB, but it's risky to buy a condominiun or private housing with that.
Yea like what Bear said, you'd probably end up with the Singaporean version of octomom....

what risk??? just buy lah, no money, loan first, sure earn one lah, later cannot afford, sell lor, then HDB your problem, then they allow you to take HDB and you gain from selling yr condo. In Singapore, buy first and talk later, won't die one lah, the most sell lor.
anyone here has any solution to offer the govt to solve the insufficient birthrate problem?

that's assuming the prices is rising enough to keep up with the interest rate.
Not everyone could absorb the losses of a devalued property.

It's a tough question, i mean it's hardly a secret that rising education levels of women will always lead to a reduced birth rate (not that it's the women's fault but it's a fact)
It can't be just the political system either, Taiwan Hongkong and Japan all have the same problem but granted that opening the floodgates for immigrants only accelerates the problem.
But i think the most straightforward way is to either up the salary cap limit for HDB (so that higher salary couples could afford cheaper flats, increasing their confidence of being able to provide for more than one child) or increase the subsidy for HDB,
Irony: They said lesser babies are born each year, yet singapore is getting more & more crowded.
FTs not enough to replace meh?? How much crowded is enough?
lol...

HDB???
It will be good if the govt can provide huge subsidy for study till the child finishes "O" or "A" levels. Provide fund for the lower income families for buying of milk powder and textbooks.

If i recall correctly O level education is already pretty heavily subsidised, unless you want to study at an independant school like ACS
I'm not too sure about A levels, but polytechnics are around 2k per semester for locals expensive but not impossible to save while your child is growing up.
University level would probably be the biggest killer but not impossible with student loans.
All in all, it seems the biggest expenditure for a newly wedded couple would be their house/flat.
While i don't disagree of providing funds for lower income families i don't think it would up their birth rate much.

I believe susbidy in study does help people to decide on child birth. It would be good if govt can provide subsidy for polytechnic education.
So far feedback from those not willing to give birth or give birth to more babies is costs of living is too high. We cannot control the constant rise in the costs of living only the govt can.
